17 HP B&S Blowing Fuses

I have a 17 hp B&S engine on a Murray riding mower. It blows fuses immediately after replacing them. I've traced it to the red wire coming out of the stator. I noticed the pin on the red wire had arced inside the connector. I found a bare spot on the wire coming from the soleniod and repaired it. IO can't find any other bare spots in any of the wiring. the only thing that looks funny is the arced area on the connector from the stator. How can I test the stator? Any other ideas?

Use a multimeter set on ohms, Put the red test lead on the red stator wire and the black to any ground (engine block). It should be a open circuit if not the stator is shorted to ground and needs to be replaced.

Measuring 0.3 ohms. Guess it's shorted to ground. Thanks.
