View Full Version : What pesticide?

I was working on the lawn the other day and there were little bugs flying out of the lawn. They were too small and quick for me to identify. Can anyone recommend a pesticide that will deal with the flying insects, ants, and ticks?

if they are not damaging the turf or biting your family, why bother?

I've had some insect damage in the past so I would like to be preventive while my lawn is still healthy.

There is nothing that I am aware of that would fly out of your lawn this time of year that would also damage it unless Sod Webworms are early in your parts. These aren't "bugs" but rather snout moths. If this were the case, granular Talstar would prevent a problem. If larval stages were already causing active damage (probably impossible this early) then Dylox would clear it up.

We actually had some early webworm damage here in May last year. I smacked them down with Arena & had ZERO insect activity for the rest of the year.

I went out today to water the lawn and a bunch of them flew out of the lawn. If anything they are a nuisance. They seemed to be about a 1-2 cm in length with transparent wings and a green body.

Talstar is a good general insecticide. I use it for prim sprays and flea control. a little goes a long way!

MrC -- Sounds like leaf hoppers. Talstar is good, but CrossCheck (LESCO) works great and is less expensive. Broad spectrum too. Good for fleas, ticks, springtails, and many others.

Does it look like this--a mayfly?

Are you near a trout stream?

I'll check out the CrossCheck.

I don't know if it is a Mayfly, but it does look similar to that. No, I'm not near a any stream just a lot of trees.

Anyone use Deltaguard G (deltamethrin)? It's more expensive, but was wondering for what uses this would be better than Talstar?

try Onyx, but it will kill everything.
