Hi, everybody--

I've found a 2001 Lazer Z demo model at a dealer. 60" deck, 25HP KOH, 77 hrs. Comes with full eXmark warranty. They want $6,995.

Any comments would be appreciated!

Try to get them to knock off a couple hundred more. Then your getting a deal. Not much of one now.

That's what I was thinking, too, Hoss. It's an okay price but not a great deal.

Only one Exmark dealer here in Evansville and this is the third largest city in Indiana. But he is very high on his prices. That unit would run me new 8600 and thats the best deal he will give hes also a big John Deere dealer. All of his Exmarks come with a donalson air filter i guess thats why he thinks he can get the price he wants, so to me that sounds like one heck of a good deal. 77hrs is like mowing 2 weeks not many hrs. We've got a dealer here just like the one you mentioned: has TWO eXmarks in stock and could care less if he sells them. But, man, does he have JDs! Caters mainly to retail customers. Too bad, too, because he's only 2 miles from my house. :(

I paid $6995 + tax for a new 60"/25hp Kohler. There is a demo at the dealer with 15 hours for $6695.

Thanks for the info, Tom. My gut feeling was that $6,500 might be a fairer price.

I wouldnt buy the demo, the 77 hrs are likely tough hrs,and the 25Kohler neither a hot seller, nor a good performer. Then there's the reliablity issues with Kohler.

John, you're so right about the demo hours being hard hours. The casters looked like they'd been driven 76 hrs on rough concrete.

Skip, when I bought my brand new Dixie last spring, they were trying to sell me their 99 demo,it had 13 hrs on it,I wanted a new one, they tried to tell me 13 hrs was 2 days work, blah, blah, blah,.I was going to save 350 for 13 hrs-it was a steal. They didnt know that I knew it had only the front deck lift, and the old style deck that cuts terrible.I wanted the 4 point deck lift, and it was trashed, and beat. The tires were actually worn as if someone had intentionally smoked them on blacktop, the seat stained beyond repair. It had been run every day for a year in and out of the shop, and shut off, hardly ever warming up,So although it had only 2 days time on it,it had been started 6-700 times, and run by employess that fire everything up wide open.THat is not a mower i want to buy to save 350 bucks. My mower now has 246hrs on it,and it still looks better than their demo did at 13 hrs.

You're absolutely right. It didn't even occur to me that every day the machines are run outside, then back inside, without any regular operation. And God knows what the demo hours were like!
I really feel uneasy about this unit. The dealer said they sell the unit for $7,995, but since it's a demo I'd get a grand off. It seems like from what I'm hearing that the price should be $6,995 new. Thanks so much for your advice and comments. I really appreciate it!

I watched my dealer run them outside in the AM,the throttles stay at wide open,no one ever touches them. They fire em up,kick off the choke, and whip them out side, they run about 15 seconds, then shutdown, same deal at night when they bring them back in for the night. That is a lot of abusive cold starts.,over a yeasr time for a "like new" mower. Now when they demo them, they run them in a feild across the street, they dont clean the decks when they are done, the mowers will sometimes not be demo'd for days, even weeks at a time,so the stink from rotten grass,is nasty,I cant imagine how rusted up those decks must be after a year of that.Needless to say I turned down the big savings of 350 bucks on mine.

Yep. 95% of the wear and tear on engines occurs during starting and stopping. Bottom line, I guess, is that the deal has to be pretty sweet to consider a demo.

Were is fairport, near rockchester? I use an exmark dealer near Binghamton that seems to be fair on his prices.

Yeah, Larry, Fairport is a suburb of Rochester. Pretty far from Binghampton. :(
