i bought a 16x6.5' almost identical to yours and payed extra for the side gate and i think i have used it maybe twice. thought i would be a big help but i havent really used it much. its shorter than the rear gate so the angle it too steep to drive up on. its ok for pushing a w/b up though. maybe you'll get more use outa yours

Wow, thanks for all the replys. Ya, it's a 8' x 18'. The tool chest was going to be expanded metal, but now I'm glad we used solid plates because of all the dirt that gets on it. I don't use the side gate much, but when you need something that's loaded in the front of the trailer you realize it's really worth it.
