i would say the bottom picture is bent grass

The bottom pic is found here in minnesota in kentucky bluegrass. It dies quicker and takes longer in the spring to green up. It is real coarse and many leaves, unlike the kentucky.

I concur. We have a ton of bent in Oregon and it looks like bent displaying false crowning. Bent tends to look like crap and does false crowning when it is cut higher than it should be. Instead of cutting the blades, the grass grows higher and the then the stolons are cut giving bent an ugly appearance of brown/yellow like it is thatch or dying.
