View Full Version : trailer 6" to short for mechine, any of you had this problem?
my 12' trailer is 6" to short.
my tractor and aeravator will not fit unless i extend the trailer which is no problem but it takes time.
i ordered a aeravator today and when it comes in i am going to see how long to make the trailer.
that stinks.
a friend said to cut out the bulk head?

I'm sure you thought of this, but why not buy a bigger trailer 14' or 16' double axle and sell the smaller one. Or even better yet, just keep the smaller one for small jobs. But remember as they say "Size doesnt matter".....LOL

6" too short. go figure....
Is the problem with the ramps hinged up? Could you extend the tabs slightly which would let the ramps hang a few degrees from 90?
Would your three point be able to raise the aerovater over the trailer header if you backed unto the trailer?
Are you running a loader? could you raise it up over the header?
Just some thoughts....
Can you post a picture of your trailer?

I have the same situation. I have an 18', and I fall just short of my walk behind in front, (I've tried turning it every which way), my Gravely 300 Promaster, (there's a space taker), and My Lazer at the back. I need a 20!

My 16' was too short so I bought a 20' and have plenty of room to put the 34" encore ztr, 60"exmark lazer and 61" scag junk (turf) tiger.

Yep
I did what racerdave said, hang 'em over in the front and extend the tabs on the gate.
the gate's a little bit of an aggrivation now 'cause it's not balanced when I take out the pin. Not as bad as making two trips though.
Dave
you might be able to put a side ramp on an solve your problem.

Extend the toungue if you are 6" too small ?
This could wind up being a hall of fame thread. Like the greasing your balls thread: http://www.lawnsite.com/showthread.php?threadid=4233&highlight=grease+ball

these must be good times for you. you are growing as measured by your need for additional trailer space.
by that token, you have out grown the 12 footer. it's time for a 16.
a brand new 16 foot tandem trailer with white wheel rims can be had for $750 in my area.

No matter what size you have it will be to small soon. I would get a bigger trailer since you will probably want a w/b aerator along some day to do small areas.
BTW, how fast can you pull a aeravator?

I've never had the problem of having too small of a trailer, however, I have had the problem of having equipment that was too large???

LGF, Eric wanted to no how fast you can pull an aeravator, not an aerator.
thanks for all the replys.
it should be in next week or so and i will get a better grip on whats going on .
and i will post what i did.
1. burn out part of bulk head.
2. extend the gat tabs.

well after all the unit is 148" long trailer is 12'....
got the unit on the trailer and it fits.god is on my side. but it is scarey getting it on the dump trailer.(i have to lift the dump a few feet to lessen the encline)the tractor will not lift the aeravator high enough and it drags big time.
whatv do you guys think about winching it on the trailer?
