I have found nests and 3 out of 5 houses i maintain! It seem like most houses this year have 2 or 3 if they have any!
your right .the last 2 days. i would open sliding door on pole barn and there would be 20 or so . got some old spray and shot there nest when it got dark. they are on it then. and about 30 fell out.
dead in a couple seconds.

yea I found some Yellowjackets on Thurs. The dang things, ya can't see the nests being that they are underground.
Well I was mowing along a cement retaining wall when I felt the first stings, (of course I was in a tight area so the metro was in 3rd gear). Well you can't get away very fast in 3rd so as I tried to stop the mower (oh I was on a hill also) and swat them off my legs the mower spun around, through a small landscape and hit a tree.
well at least I was able to run then.
I was ok till the next morning. Had 10 stings on one leg and 5 on the other(all below the knee). My foot swelled up so bad I couldn't get my shoe on. I swell up pretty bad from stings.
Well on Fri with my bulging foot and the fire on my legs I went to see the doc. He put me on double dose Allegra for 3 days. MAN that worked wonders. The swelling was almost gone by Sat night. I have always taken benadryl after being stung he said that was good but not as powerful as Allegra. I guess next time I will get some quicker. :D

A Yellowjacket is a wasp.
It seems that I can't get near a pear or apple tree without dodging the red wasps! I guess they like minced fruit? heheh
I got stung a couple of weeks ago by a red wasp while trimming around a 'metal pipe' clothsline pole. They had built their nest inside of it and apparantly did not care for me whipping the pole with the string trimmer...still have a hard spot on my jaw from that one.
They are everywhere in my neck of the woods. :(

I got nailed by yellow jackets a few weeks ago. I was trying to get away from them and accidently threw a $260.00 string trimmer into the next yard. Kawasaki trimmers are great at what they do but they don't fly worth a damn.

I was stung by a Bee a few weeks ago - never found the nest.
Saturday morning around 6:30 in the morning, I was on a back yard, and got stung on the first pass around the back side. I never saw what stung me, or where it came from, but I figured it was a yellow jacket.

I started this thread after seeing a paper wasp nest yesterday. Today I got stung or should I say, bitten- today! Yellowjackets were swarming me, I hope everyone keeps a first aid kit in the truck! Mine has bee sting juice and insta-cold packets (Handi wipes are great to carry also). I was cutting ivy and Blamo! Got nailed three times sorta bad then some other small bites, they are mean you just can't smack 'em away... they come back! Stay Alert~!:(

My partner's been stung on three seperate occasions so far this year. The yellowjackets love him. His latest encounter he ended up being stung/bit three times on the top of his head.
Being stung is no fun but nothing's more funny than watching someone else running around like a screaming maniac swatting wildly in the air. I thought I was gonna need abdominal surgery after watching his last "encounter". Too funny!
Only a matter of time before I get hit though...happens every year.

The worst thing you could do is squash a yellow jacket, they leave a scent that says to any others in the vicinity, "get the b@stard!!!" Best thing to do is move away quickly and quietly with little flailing as soon as you realize you are in deep ca ca, a hose does wonders if u are under assault.

thats actually pretty cool to know. never heard that.
i usually get them with the trimmer, bumble bees actually bounce off the ground if you just nick em.

those bastards built a nest in my crawl space, under the house, and I 've found two that have crawled in threw the floor and vents, and one dead next to the vents.
I don't have the balls to go down and kill the nest, from stories I 've herd here I wouldn't make it out alive, since I'd have nowhere to run!!!
Any ideas on how to kill 'em?

danthemowerman: use an indoor fogger in your crawlspace. You can buy these anywhere and they work like a charm.

For me it is the killer bees. Have not seen any or been around them.
Carry soaping water in a spray can. It will kill those suckers, and won't hurt the enviorment. Any dish soap will do.

I had some bees make nests inside the roof vents of my trailer earlier this year.. Just closed the vents all the way and I guess the gas fume buildup killed them cause they were all layin on the screen the next day..
