We are currently using a 7X16 tandem axle Landscape trailer for our mowing needs. We use a '97 F150 reg cab longbed V6 5 speed, the truck is rated to tow up to 7500 lbs. I am wanting to buy a new 7X16 enclosed trailer that is rated @ 7000 lbs and weighs 2400 lbs empty. What do you think about this truck towing this style trailer? I'd probably never have more then 6000lbs total. I just like the idea of not having to unload EVERYDAY and if I get a V-Nose I think it would help with pulling as my current trailer's tailgate catches all the wind and can sometimes be a pain. Any input would be appreciated.

I think the engine and tranny will be a bit weak but its doable. You will wear the truck out faster and the MPG will stink but you have to work with what you got.

You should be fine most things are under rated so that they will last till the end of warranty.

Your 7500 lb. rating for a V6 5 speed sounds extremely high. I think the rating for a '97 with a 5.4 V8 and an automatic may be 7500 lbs but not your engine and transmission. Your truck will move 6000 lbs safely, but that much weight will be murder on your clutch, especially on hills. If your area is mostly flat you should be OK, but still slow. I used to have a Chevy 1500 with the 4.3 Vortec V6 and a 5 speed and towing more than 4000 lbs. was slow and difficult.

Buy a 3/4 ton truck, Ford, Chevy, Dodge, whatever you like. A 1/2 ton with a V-6...that is a lot of strain on that rig, and you'll be asking for problems. Maybe a 1/2 ton with a V-8, now thats do-able. But if I were you, I would look into a 3/4 ton. I am!

Take a look in the truck's owner's manual. It'll give the range/tow weight recommendations. It'll tow it but plan on moving up on size soon. Also, look at the ratings on the decal posted on the driver's side door pillar.
