Used paver question

Hey folks,

Just curious if I could use old bricks from a building to make a brick patio?

They look clay and have the frog indent.

They don't have the 1/4 in bump on the sides that store bought pavers have to create an area to fill with sand ... curious if you think that will be a big issue to overcome.

Rick, can you use them, yes, will you be happy with the results, likely not. Building bricks are not made to lay horizontally and been walked on. The nubs on the side allow and to fill in that space and create interlock, which is a vital part of interlocking paver installations. Your building bricks may be brittle and laying them horizontal may led to premature surface wear and flaking.

You would be better off making a fireplace for the patio or perhaps planters with those bricks. There are clay brick made for and being used as paver surfaces, but they are made differently than building bricks.

correct! Building bricks will not wear like pavers. Your hard work will look like crap in a few short years.
