Does anyone know if pre-emergent herbicide will work to keep dropped acorns from sprouting? If there is one, how long is it effective once it is applied?

I have asked the same question. I know if you spay an oak tree when is is flowering you can prevent acorns. With what I don't know. I am planning on getting acorn nets this year.

Acorn nets? Never hear of them, do you have a link to info about them?

Surflan will stop acorns from germinating. But it's non-selective. It won't effect anything that's already growing but will stop all seeds from sprouting.
By varying application rates, you can get control for up to a year. If you're "creative" with the label rates you can get control for longer. So my friendly neighborhood extension agent tells me.

What good does that do then if you are putting down mulch with the pre-emerge underneath and the acorns don't drop again until next year?
