My friend just demoed a Husquvarna 23 HP Kawasaki Z today and says it's extremely fast and cuts very good. Do any of you have one and if so, what's your opinion of them and would you buy another? How do they compare to Exmark, Toro, DC. It looks like a well built and well laid out machine to me. How about the 23 Kaw or the 25 Kaw engine?

It wont compare to Exmark around here, and Toro has a pretty good foothold and following as well. The Kawasaki is a great engine. Either HP if good, just remember, they under rate the motor's by 2HP. So if you get a 25 HP you are really getting a 27. Dont know why they do that but a mower Manufacturer told me they do that.
I,ve run Husky, ExMark, Ferris, and Hustler and the Husky couldn't even come close to the ExMark or the Hustler. (Both 60" Decks)
I feel that the ExMark has the best cutting deck on the market no questions asked!!
i demowed one and it seemed pretty fair machine.
im a lazer man myself ,but i wouldnt be afraid of the husk.
i think this is just the kees with a different paint job.

I looked at the Exmark, Toro, Lesco, and Husky. I decided on the Husky. Someone replied that the Exmark was superior. I don't know what he did, but the Husky I got was equal to or superior to all the others I looked at. Last week I used it to cut grass and weeds as high as the top of the operator handles. It cut it in one pass.
It makes a great, smooth cut. I chose it over the Exmark because it was over $800 cheaper and had a Kawi instead of Kohler. BTW, I am very happy with it so far and will probably get another (for dedicated bagging) next year.
You gotta go with what you like, but some people only like what they have and are never open-minded to anything else.

I have owned A Husqvarna 18 horse for a couple of months and have been really happy with it, can't compare though it is the only zero turn I have owned. Price was right 48 inch with 18 horse Kawasaki for 4995.

I have heard nothing but good about these machines, and they look like they're built to last. Who makes these machines, again? We talked about it before, but I can't remember who they are built by.

Runner, they are made by Kees and you are right they are a well made machine.
from just looking at there picture in the april 2001 turfmag. kind of reminds me of the post i read. were one of eric elms lawns was used to sell chraftsman riding mowers. whene it was acually cut with a dixie chopper .
just look at the picture of the guy mowing on his right back tire its making the grass lighter instead of darker. i dont think those stripes was made with that mower .they should have moved the mower more to the left and that way it would look like they cut it with that mower.
although that foot pedal that lifts the deck sure looks easy to make for the mowers that dont have it .and would like to scalp less.

I know the pic you're talking about. Kind of reminds me of all the specially made, left side discharging Exmarks we see in the ads.:D
that has nothing to do with a back wards negative . its plain to see that that mower didnt make those stripes.
any one agree ?

The husky is more for homeowners.Even though they put in the comm. engines .There deck and frame design is a joke. There about 3 years behind in there product. Besides look what they did with kees and yazoo. Go with the exmark or hustler you will be so very happy

Now I understand your liking the Exmark, but which Husky are you talking about? The deck on the new commercial looks like the one on my Yazoo/Kees. Far from a joke.

Husqvarna is now making a 72" machine. Saw it at the Expo, if I'm not mistaken I believe it had the 27 hp LC Kawasaki power plant. Very nicely designed unit..................Lynn

No, what I was refering to was not to do with the picture negative standpoint of it, since the stripes WERE going in the right direction, I was just refering to the efforts that are put into the photos for the advertising purposes. For instance, the mower is never running when the pics are taken either, and occasionally, I've even seen pics that the grass BEHIND the mower isn't even cut - yet you still see the operator as if he is "intensively watching his path". Little things like that.

I looked at page A22, B22, and C22 in the Turf Magazine for April 2001 and I do not see an advertisement for Husky.
Since different area's get a different magazine, this could be why mine is different. I get the Central edition of Turf, so I would think you may get the Eastern one and it could be different ads in it. Mine has a pull out advertiesment for them, but no stripes on the ad. :(

Runner, they are made by Kees...
Not exactly. Husky bought Yazoo/Kees. The machines are basically the same, but the company is Husqvarna.
...and you are right they are a well made machine.
I agree.

Eric,
You're right, they don't have it in our August issue of Turf. However, if you happen to have an old March issue of Pro laying around, the pic is on page 23, at the bottom. (I just happened to have this issue near me at the time).
i would like to see the stripes pic ,where the mower in the pic didsnt make them. didnt start getting turf until may.
i know there would be copywrite if it was posted here
so ill just do without:(

If you think they're lesser quality and capability you might be surprised to know the model pictured above is the latest version manufactured by Kees which also manufactures Exmark/TORO according to my dealer. He sells Husky and Toro and claims the Husky is essentially a Kees Series II. He says the Exmark and Toro, though a little different are a Kees Series I. The Husky has the motor mounted with the with the drive shaft coming out the back of the motor, instead of the bottom which allows a lower center of gravity, better stability. Their smaller versions are made by Areins, which I agree is mostly for homeowners.

There are connections between Kees and Exmark. The co founder of Exmark worked for F. D. Kees for several years. They are located in the same small Nebraska town, as is Encore (also started by Exmark co founder). The similarities were great, and one could guess Exmark helped F. D. Kees with the ZT Max series of mowers. All that changed when Toro bought out Exmark. Kees ( by then, Yazoo/Kees) was sued by Toro for certain patent enfringements. Exmark allowed it, but one could guess Toro didn't completely understand the agreeement :) The settlement was a small slap on the wrist.
In comes Husqvarna. I believe this takes Kees design and refines it. Husqvarna is part of a huge multi billion dollar company, part of the Electrolux Group (large appliance company, including Frigidaire.) Husqvarna brings in loads of money for future design and can make them a heavy hitter in future commercial sales. Still the same people building it, just allows them more R&D.

Why would it be a copywrite if it was posted here? We would be giving them free advertisement. ;)
I did find the ad in the August Pro. That looks like DC stripes to me. :D
Now you can see it Tony :)

The husky machine has been represented here for the last three years, but I have yet to see anyone buy one or have seen any in use! We have a few Yazoo/Kees running around but no husky. Our local d/c dealer is a dealer for the husky and he told me the reason he does not stock it is because he can not sell it against the d/c.
will electrolux build huskies into a machine as respected as their husky saws or their green poulan saws.be interesting to see.
i did demo one and it really controlled well, almost like the hustler.
