looks like red thread fungus. caused by the heat and humidity we have had this spring. when was the lawn last fertilized? if its low on nitrogen that can help bring on the disease signs. water deep and infrequently and give it a good slow release fertilizer and avoid watering at night as it can make the spots worse.

it has been fertilized at the end of march and the end of april and we are begining to start another app and did not want to do anything with this yard until we found out what is going on with it. it has had plenty of water. and it started a couple of weeks ago and it was not that hot out.

the water is the key factor with red thread. make sure it has enough nitrogen, and as previously mentioned, water infrequently.. also, water in the morning as opposed to middle of the night.

should mention, you are probably tracking the fungus from lawn to lawn. keep an eye on your other lawns.

It could be where the poa annua is dying out that is if you had any. It dyes this time of year and leaves dead looking spots.
