Just wondering how many of you still have grass to cut? Here in Northwest Ohio I have only cut a limited amount of accounts. Some lawns I have not been on for 5 weeks, and still no rain in sight. What's your weather like?

Was getting to that point here in Philly area, but with last weeks rains and more to come this weekend the slump should be over!

Sorry to hear that. Here in sunny FLA. It's been raining 2 or 3 times a week, at night thankfully, grass still growing fast and strong. Looking forward to cooler weather.

i have been cutting the lawns whenever i can now due to my lack of vehicle :( i think that before this past weekend they had gone about 2 weeks for some of them, and one pair i still havent done now in about 3 weeks or so. we just got dumped on last night for about an hour or two at a rate of about 2" per hour. so i am hoping that i can get somebody to go cut for me soon.

That's one nice thing about crabgrass. It grows like the dickens in hot, humid weather like we have been having lately. I am cutting all of my customers on the regular schedule. I wish I could cut some of them twice a week. It looks like August will be a record month by 12% over the previous record. July holds the previous record.

We're skipping a few but we also have a lot of irrigated lawns.
Don't want to change the name to Fried Lines Lawn.

cutting every 10 or so days.......alot of it's crabgrass though
Things are getting really slow here too...
Some lawns I haven't mowed in over two weeks and the only thing thats growing is a few weeds that I can knock down with the string trimer just as fast as the mower.
We haven't had a good soaking rainstorm in about 2 months. The last storm we got ( 2 weeks ago) dropped a lousy 1/4" and the one before that was ages ago.
Thank Goodness for seasonal contracts .
My work week has slowed down to only three days a week now.

While we don't mow the type of yards most of you do, the weeds are doing really well here. The 5" of rain we had a few weeks ago and more rain yesterday and today are keeping us busy. No end in sight yet.

Lawnboy..... because of your accident, you have been without a vehicle for 3 weeks? You have not worked in 3 weeks? I dont think..... actually I know my customers wouldnt apreciate me not showing up for three weeks. If for some reason I didnt have my truck for 3 weeks I would do what I had to get a truck to drive. whether its renting one wich the person to blame for your accident would be responsible for or even buy a cheap used truck to get through untill you resolved everything. Your lucky you have nay customers left!

only been skipping two accounts. all the others are irrigated. the ones i have been skipping havent been mowed in 5 weeks.
I've only skipped one non irragated customer so far. Cut em high boys, cut em high.
Things were getting real bad here the past few weeks but we got some rain here late last week and this week we are mowing about 65% of our lawns. Looks like we have rain in the forecast fore tomarrow too. I would love an all day rain to get the lawns going again.

Last week I only did 11 of 30 lawns...
Because of the rain this past weekend... EVERYONE will get a visit this week.

Only skipping 1 or 2 here and there, but you got to love the almost no trimming and the time saved per a lawn.
My 50+ hrs a week has turned in to 30 or less so ya gota love it

We have only skipped one this week. We are supposed to get more rain tonight and the weather guesser said it is possible to get up to 3" of rain in the next 10 days here. Things are looking much better here. Most of the lawns are getting green again. :D

No rain yet. Watering ban in effect too. Nothing but straw fields up here. Summers like this is why we have monthly contracts. We've been cutting what we can, skipping what we can't. Hoping for rain tomorrow.
Still mowing but its slowed a little for the non irrigated accounts, come on September!
Mowing at about 25% here. We had 1.4 inches in July and .35 inches in Aug. so far. Everything is brown that isn't watered or in shade.

I know this will sound weird, but I prefer a drier summer to a wet one, let me explain. 90 % of our customers are irrigated
and we prune about the same percent. With a wet summer we get backed up on pruning and you know how people get when their bushes are overgrown. Even with the non irrigated lawns everyone gets done a minimum of biweekly whether they think it needs it or not. We definitely do better (financially) with a dry summer, and there is always something to do.

The weather has been much better this year than last year. We have been getting a steady rain off and on. So the grass is growing great. We haven't had to skip anyone. Some we have had to cut more often because of the rapid growth of their yards. With the way it is going we will have a few more good months like this. I am glad. It really hurt us last year with the dry weather. Who's to say the weather will be next year.

I only had to back off 2-4 days. We are getting rain, in some spots though, but everything has been steady. Forcast is for more rain Thursday and Friday. Guess I'll have another day off.

I've skipped no lawns this year. Most everyone should really be cut twice a week. We've had lots of rain and more due in tomorrow.
Still cutting as normal here. We actually have not had a decent rain in a week or so but the grass is still growing. We will see if this next tropical storm brings some rain. I agree, in dry slow times this is why we have and need monthly contracts.

since '96, this is the greenest summer I have seen. I am unable to keep up because of having to double cut several yards that I want to look real good.
it makes me wish I had a higher production mower because I could sure use it.
I am also getting more requests tor trimming bushes which is time consuming.

This season started out great. My 1st year going full time.
I quit my die maker job,and after 3yrs of doing both Im now
able to focus on just building my dream lawn service.
The 1st 2mo. of the cutting season I had 3 helpers and myself
we were cutting 80 accounts per week with an average of $40
a cut. It only took 35 to 40 hrs a week. But now last week my
last helper left and now I do all the work which isnt much.
With little or no rain in july and vary hot temps. all month
Im left with about 35 accounts that still get weekly cuttings
the rest of them dont have or dont use there sprinkler systems
or they use chemlawn/truegreen and were fryed after 2 hot days.
So Im bummin because Ive got 3 new exmarks all these blowers whips edgers new ram oh ya lots of payment!!!!!!!!!
Im only 1man crew. Raining all day today and more on the way.
Boy Im in trouble if they all come back in A couple of weeks
All my help started new jobs its hard to find people who are as
good and take pride in there work like I do. well now I have
some level of relief knowing im not alone in this ****** season
of grass cutting:confused: You grow it we'll mow it!

This is my first season. Out of about 20 residential accounts 4 of them are monthly. Currently I went from cutting 3 days a week to 4 hours! I luckily have a large commercial acct. paid monthly to keep myself alive! Only 2 customers actually water their lawns regularly so they are all burnt. There is a valuable lesson here for the benefits of diversifying cash with monthly accts. You just never know what a season will be like.

it is nearing the end of August and we are still doing weekly cuts in Missouri, granted, those will low priority lawns, those that don't care how their lawns look as long as they don't get a ticket are 10 day cuts, but those that want nice lawns are still being cut. some are starting to go dormant, but september the first we will be hitting it with a dose of nitrogen, then it will probably take us into the first part of November.

In my market you have 10-12 more cuts before the snow flies.
In 30 days there will be a 1 in 3 chance of the first killing frost.
In 60 days most of the leaves will be down and the truck loaders will be humming.
In 90 days chances are most of us in my market will have pushed their first few inches of snow.
In 120 days you will be begging for a simple spring cleanup.
Get cutting.

We went from brown grass to grass growing close to an inch a day. What a turn around here.
The ones with irrigation stayed green during the dry spell, but they are needing to be cut every 3 days now. ;)

We have just had our first week with no rain yet, still cutting strong. Most of my accounts are in need every week but they are only going to pay every other week, I had one customer that told me to come ever week and her yard looks good day in day out.

Well after 12 hours of a good soaking rain Thursday night. I think I'm back to not skipping any more. Ghee though we were going to get a brake this year, NOT. Leave it up to Mother Nature to mess your plans up.
LGF:blob1:
We received more rain Wed. night than we had in all of July and the most at one time since May (2 inches). We've had another .35" over night with rain in the forecast for today and tomorrow. There's still a lot of brown grass but things are looking up. I have some lawns that haven't been mowed for 4 and 5 weeks.

This year I have never seen the grass like it has been. We have the double cut everything because it's so wet. My clients usually are visited every two weeks, not this year. We are doing most weekly and others every ten days.
June, July, and August have been really wet here. Showers everyday and sometimes twice. There have been weeks with only one or two dry days to work. WOW>
I can't wait for a break.

Funny, here in this part of NC no rain for weeks, we had a few day's then before that it was no rain for weeks again. Brown lawns are normal here, I have several that I have not mowed in 2 weeks and they still do not need mowing. The Lesco transition seed will get the ultimate test this year!

We had showers last Sunday. before that it was getting kinda dry with the 95 degree temps zapping the grass. Today we got a real downpour. But the ground is really dry and i dont know how much this rain will help. This year has been great so far with no missed cuts. But it has been teetering on drought like in kirbyville

here in Raleigh we have been double cutting everything, irrigated or not for most of the summer! I NEED A BREAK!!!! This summer has been the wettest that i can remember, ever. My dad is a crop scientest over at N.C.S.U. and he says that in his thirty years doing research here he's not seen it this wet either. All this cutting has got us backed up on everything else, pinestraw, hedges, and i've had to give away some landscaping jobs because i don't have the time to do them. Mowed one irrigated lawn this afternoon and my feet squished across the whole lawn, just imagine what it looked like after double cutting it! Now that i'm through complaining i will say that we have been fortunate, i have a 5 month old girl and we decided this spring to keep my wife home from work to raise our doughter. The money has been right on time!!!
