Strawmat over seed

I'am going to completely renovate one of my clients backyard this fall. I was wondering what to put over the seed after I sow it. The state dot was fixing a place on the side of the road and they put something down that looked like a straw mat. They rolled it out, it looked like it would do a nice job. Does anybody know what it is and where I can purchase it. The stuff looked like tan furnace filter material.....thanks

YOU can find the mat yuo are referring to at home cheepo or blowes stores.

You would use the mat if you had an area that would have problems washing ouy, a hillside, slope. If it is level, I would use straw to protect the seed.
