I am a homeowner w/ approx. 3 acres to cut w/ alot of trees. I found two deals and want you experts' advice on which is the better mower for my needs:

17 KAW w/ 44" cut for $5,500

23 KOH w/ 52" cut for $6,500

I'd spend the extra thosand bucks for a faster cut. Actually I would look for a 61 or 72 inch if I were going to be cutting 3 acres.

None of the above if they are JTRs.

If you have a lot of trees to trim around you want a deck that is offset from the left wheel as much as possible.

if you are talkin ztr the 52 i have is an excellent machine for getting close to shrubs and trees. that is unless the decks have changed since 96. i dont even have to use a trimmer most of the time. i might ad that this is made much easier if you have the deck footlift. i had to add it to mine. very helpful.later tm
ps id love to have that 23 - 52 myself

Go for the larger unit. $ 1,000 more for larger cutting area and more HP. You will save time in mowing and always have plenty of horse power so you can pull an aerator or other things.

I have the 23/52. Its awesome. I do many large properties with it. Some are wide open and some have lots of trees and other obsticles. I have a church that has 2 open acres. It takes about 40 min. to cut. A 2 acre home lot with house, pool, trees, flowerbed, and fence takes me 55 min. Oh, I run the mulching kit on mine. If you want that bagged look you will need more hp. It takes a little more when mulching.

Thank you all for the information. I opened the purse strings and went for the 23/52. Power is excellent and trimming with the offset left side makes all the difference.

This is truly an informative, well-administered, and helpful website.

jbell,
Congrats on your Lazer HP 52" purchase. I have one and love it.
If you have any need for a bagger the Exmark Ultravac is an excellent unit also. I use mine for fall leaf pick-up and full season grass collection.:) ;) :) ED
