I have never owned a diesel but I need a truck for everyday work pulling a trailer. I have about 10,000 to spend and that is what is being asked for this truck. 295,000 miles really makes me nervous. Should I just get a Ford/Chevy/Dodge 1500 with miles under 100,000?

Way too much money for the miles. That being said that isn't alot of miles for a diesel, or at least a cummins diesel. I paid 5500.00 for my cummins with 136,000 miles on it. Later, Tony

Run away. Even if the motor is fine, the rest of the truck will fall apart around it. You can buy a pretty nice used 1/2 or 3/4 ton gasser for that kind of coin, you'd be far better served with that. I recently saw an 02 Cummins Dodge, 3/4 ton 4x4 6 speed ext. cab long bed for 11 or 12, and that's been a year ago. Had 95 or 98k miles on it. You can do alot better.

Wayy too much money for the miles. I know a lot of people with 300K+ on their Powerstrokes, relatively trouble-free, but I'd only give, tops, 5-6K for a truck like that, if it was in PERFECT condition otherwise. If you're gonna be spending 10K-ish, the older, first generation Powerstrokes can be picked up with 130K on up for $10k or less, I bought my 96 with 150K in 2005 for $9500, XLT 4x4, extended cab, and I've put close to 50K on it since then, it has been the most trouble-free truck I have owned. I recently saw a 1997 F350 single wheel automatic, with a brand new Boss V-Blade, Powerstroke, regular cab, mint condition, sell for i think close to 11 or 12 thousand.
