Hey everybody,
I am looking to buy a used truck in june. Need some advice. I am looking at Ford F350 diesel. I am lookin at either 2000-2002 with the 7.3 or 2004 -2005 6.0. I am on a limited budget with around $20000 to spend. I am lookin at a regular cab 8ft bed. Its gonna be my everyday vehicle work truck. Gonna be using it to plow snow also. I was set on the 7.3 till last night at the bar. My buddy whos a farmer said get the 6.0 better mileage and more horses. I personally know a couple people that have had problems with the 6.0 so i am a little nervous about this engine but I like the better gas mileage. I know stay away from 2003! Whats your guys opinion??? Yes I will be buying a FORD!!! Won't go with anything else!:usflag:

Buy a 1994-1997 f350. These are some of the most sought after duallys in the country. They are more durable and easier to repair than a newer body style. Newer ones came with too much pollution control devices. I bought a 1997 F350 back in january with the 7.3. Has 133,000 on it and its loaded. Only paid 9,500 for it. It pulls my 36 ft enclosed race car hauler just fine. I weigh 22,0000 gross combined weight and it gets about 12.5 mpg pulling. It gets about 16 around town. Dont buy anything newer!

I have a 05 F350 with 105k miles on it...it needed injectors about 50k miles ago, otherwise it has been problem free.

Pulls great, everyday.

I've had both. If you're going to favor the 7.3, try and find an '03. If you're going with the 6.0, don't go any earlier than '05 if you can help it. '04 if it's a low mileage great deal but definitely no '03's.

The 7.3's were great engines except for pestering cam sensor issues. I had two go out on my '01. One left me sitting dead in heavy traffic with a 20' trailer full of lawn equipment.

I have 30K on my '05 6.0L and it has been one outstanding truck so far. I put a 4" exhaust on it and an intake and it has gobs and gobs of pulling power. :)

The 03s were definatly hit or miss when it comes to problem childs. My 03 has been good I bought it used and it has no problems. The newer the better of course but for 20 grand your not going to find a 05 to 07 so try find a 2002 with the 7.3 its your best bet.

The 1999 to 2007 trucks have better brakes than the 95-97 Fords its the reason why I got rid of my 95 F-Superduty and that had 4 wheel disk brakes. I have a 03 450 now and with the 19.5 wheels and bigger brakes the truck stops good with the truck grossing 16,000lbs. The 99 and newer F-250 and 350 have 4 wheel disk brakes and they work good far better than the 97 and older trucks with rotten drum brakes on the back.

The "Superduty" cab is bigger than the OBS Fords I like the extra room I have driven OBS (old body style) Fords all my life. The size difference is considerably larger.

Well i thought my 06 350 with 6.0 was doing real well since my 03 was junk until today. So today i stopped to get a drink with my hydro-seeder behind me returned to truck and the moth####### low life piece of #### would not start. Had to have it towed to ford garage and a buddy to haul my hydro-seeder with a dodge back to finish seeding. I'll let you know tomm. what happened.

Grab a 7.3, that way you dont have to worry and it will be cheaper. I havent had any problems with my 6.0 but I kinda like the sounds of the 7.3's and you can really chip them up and not worry a whole lot. Just my 0.02:clapping:

Well the verdict of my truck was a high pressure oil leak, i guess that shut the system down. I borrowed a dodge with the cummins and i really liked it. Plenty of bottom power.

you might be able to chip them up but remember, the ol 7.3s tranny cant be programmed like our 6.0s with the sct. i see your 6.0 is tuned by elite. i had some crazy cuban guy make my 6.0 looney:weightlifter:
