I heard something about this over a year ago from the inventor. He told me to keep an eye on this because the technology would change the industry. ( or so he pans )

A few years ago I thought of an idea for lasers mounted on something like sprinkler heads. The heads would pop up to the proper height and start cutting. Only problem you would need a protective border for any beds, trees, house, driveway, pool, etc.
No more lawn guys, but no more stripes...

The sprinkler heads might work. You would need one heck of a warning system for when it comes on though. I would be pissed if I was standing in the lawn and my legs got cut off :)

Yes, there is a trimmer and a walk behind in the works. The cost of the Benz unit with A/C (LGF) is just over 50G's right now but not approved for US sale as of yet??? That is what I was told when I called Laser-Tech in Germany, one of the fabricators of the laser units.
They are also working on a remote control unit similar to the Kubota all-terrain mower.

If I bought a fleet of those I'd never have a problem with hiring help. Everybody would be willing to drive that George Jetson mower. I think Guido will be right, not to sure about the pigs flying, but at 50K I dont think everyone will just run right out and get it. But just think, no scrub would ever be able to purchase it. Hmmmm looking pretty good afterall!

Maybe Im wrong, but i always thought that part of the reason we always got a good clean, even cut with rotary's and reels is because before the grass is mowed, with a rotary mower,it is lifted,by the vaccum created, and this evens it up,and lifts out any thatch, and junk, chopping it up,fine, and spreading it out evenly over 6-15 ft discharge area before returning it to the ground. With reels the reels bedknive is actually on the rear, and up about 3/4" from the lowest point of the reel, this allows the reel itself to brush, comb, and scoop the grass ,3/4" below the height of cut, right into the bedknife, giving the perfect cut.I thought this action was important. Now a laser cant do any of those things,it just cuts it without straightening,or sucking it up first.I just cant see this ever leaving a better finish than a reel mower, especially on bentgrass, where the creeping nature of it requires the reels to scoop the grass into the bedknife to be cut.I just think that any thatch below the cut height wont be lifted out,and chopped.,When you mow leaves, you will start a forset fire if its dry,and smoke out the neighbors.Maybe im wrong, but especially on a golf course, when the grass is laid down form foot and cart traffic, you need a rotary mower to lift it back up once in a while.

Yes, lazers! One day a lazer cutting machine will eventually take over the market and be dirt cheap (after some time) And that it would be done by a series of lazer beam stations placed obout the lawn like a sprinkler system. The beams would shoot out and reflect against lazer reflectors every night at a time where no one will be on the lawn. It will take off just a small tip of the grass and no bagging will be necessary. Leaves will sizzle into carbon. The lawn will be fertilized and weed control applied through the irrigation system AND WE WILL ALL BE OUT OF A JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
Now, all I've got to do is invent this ^&$#%$@% thing! :blob3:

It has some unique possiblities to look into, at least for us. Even cut, no debris or sweeping needed after mowing heavy grass, no thatch build up(mean no renovation needed), and if it is LNG. Then it would help us meet federal guidelines to find alternate fuel vehicles, not to mention reduction in the pollution(smog). The articles I have seen list it at $30,000, which we already pay that now for some machines. $50,000 as list above would be a bit steep, however if it does what is says, it might be worth it since it would eliminate other equipment need to maintain the areas.
You can find some other info by searching for laser mower in Germany. The web site for this particular unit is www.wolf-garden.com (http://www.wolf-garden.com), look for laser mower on the right side, mid way down.

Sure, this isn't quite refined enough for us yet, but EVERYTHING starts out like this and in so many years they will minaturize and refine this technology and it will be much more practical for us.
You guys have picked up on this by now haven't you? Something comes out but it is humongous and has a ton of "bugs", but in the end.....it will amaze at what it is capable of.
I mean I would JUMP at the thought of no more blades! As far as the suction/vacuum problem.....I think that could easily be solved if it were a problem so I doubt that will hinder it's progress.
When Roscioli asked if there was a laser trimmer, I about fell off my chair laughing....then Dochere put me in my spot when he said they are actually working on those as well! That would be neat!
Maybe to solve the problem of "no vacuum" we could just apply HEAVY doses of iron on the lawn and then have a magnet on a pole out in front of the machine...thus "lifting" the blades of grass instead of "pulling" them up a la the vacuum method we now employ.......hahahahah :D

''It's Mowing Jim, but not as we know it.......Set Fasers to Lawn, we may as well cut the lawn while were here,then... beam us up Scotty" :alien:
this thing might wk on a 20 inch.
any wider than that and shes gonna scalp. plus like john said the grass needs lift applied . jmho
