I'm looking to buy a enclosed trailer and was wondering what size you people that do have them recommend? I found a great price on 7x16 but not sure if thats big enough. I will have 2 ZTR's, a 21 inch and the regular hand tools in it. Any info. would be greatly appreciated.

I suggest buying one much bigger than what you think you need. It's amazing how fast you outgrow them. My 8.5 x 26 is sometimes too small.

I just bought a 24ft long Haulmark.
So far it seems to be the right size for me.
Heres a pic.

My first enclosed was a 8.5 by 20 i kept it 2 days and then traided it for a 8.5 by 18 i haul a 52 inch walkbehind 21 inch pushmower and a 61 inch ztr and all related items. It all fits very nicely once i bilt racks for all the hand tools and other items. I don't have much room for exspanion , i would recomend at least a 20 ft but i would stay away from the 8.5 wide trailers if you have very many smaller roads in your area.

I have a 8 1/2 x 24 and it's full. It is a load to tote around town every day but with the rain we've been getting lately it sure has been nice. I like the Haulmark! How well does the side door work? Don't buy a white one! Sure is hard to keep clean and the runoff from the rof will stain the white panels.

I always told myself that if I had a closed in trailer, that I would have to have atleast a 20 ft., but now, as I see the 24, it looks much more suitable for how I would want to set it up. The way things are looking, I may just have to purchase one for next year, as I don't know if I'm going to be able to find a place with a garage right away when I make this move. Also, I'm gonna need some GOOD ideas on how to secure a trailer like this, as it will DEFinitely have to be locked up. I don't know if I'll be able to cement a pole in like was discussed in an earlier conversation. (about last year at this time, I believe) If there was someway to lock up the harness hookup somehow, like enclose it in a case or something, the brakeway would certainly help hold it. Is there some kind of "Club" available for the wheels, does anybody know?
a buddys trailer was broke in to all the theif did to get in was take a few bolts loose and the whole back door is laying on the ground.
Started with a home made open trailer for my used equipment, graduated to a used enclosed trailer (6 X 12 Car Mate) which worked well, problem with it was 'no brakes' and it tended to get a bit pushey at intersections on wet roads. Current trailer is 7X16 Wells Cargo with the Landscaper package (lots of brakes on the dual axels). Love it, carries a Toro ZHP, Toro 52 walk behind, Toro 21" trim mower and the rest of the tools NEEDED for proper lawn care. room inside is adequite if the collection systems are not installed on the big mowers, if the vacuum is installed on the HP it gets a bit tight inside but will still work. I doubt that I will outgrow this trailer as I am a 1 man show with no intention of hiring any employees.
Good Luck

I'm looking at getting a 7x16 next year. I have a 6x12 open trailer now, but I want room to move around. What's a good price and what brands should we stay away from?
Hi Folks
I am no expert on trailers, I talked to other providers and got opinions.. Most of which I dismissed as hot air... When it came down to nuts and bolts I got all the information I could find on trailers and IMHO one of the better units is Wells Cargo, it aint cheap, as I have it outfitted the price from the factory was very close to double the advertised price ($8000+), I could have trimmed off a few hunderd here and there but I figured this is a one time deal and I got what I wanted (right down to aluminum wheels). Base trailer in the pricing sheets was $4400. for a 7X16 dual axel enclosed trailer with brakes (cargo wagon).
Good Luck

i currently use a 8 by 14 cargo pro enclosed trailer. its the perfect size for me, but 18 or 20 ft sounds like the right size from what you said you wanted. wells cargo is a well built trailer. i was going to buy one, except i got a good deal on my trailer cause i knew the trailer dealer.

I have an 18 x 8 haulmark elite II enclosed trailer and it's too nice for landscaping... But its a strong solid trailer with 16 crossmembers, steel frame and wall and roof bows and a one piece solid aluminum roof..
I think 18 to 20 footers are best for this industry unless you have 8 guys working from one truck...
I can get a 42 walker, 48 w/b and 36w/b spreaders, 21" , push blower, thatcher, and i still have room for a workbench... Plus all the trimers and blowers hanging on the walls with racks..
I am happy with the haulmark... I looked at the Wells cargo but I wasn't impressed with the fit and finish of the trailer, it left alittle to be desired for the high price.... I think the Car Mate is the nicest put together trailers around.. Unfortunatly they aren't available locally for me so I went with the haulmark.. But again,,, the haulmark is great... Highly reccomend it and the Car mate's ...
Good luck with your new trailer...

But Photopoint isn't into the remote image hosting anymore ... I think you have to go to their site to actually see the picture. I use a 7x16 Haulmark but if I get a second rider, it'll be a tight fit. MC, that's a nice trailer, I especially like the front corner door. :D
Even though my trailer would be small, I still like it, much better than the old open trailer. I haven't had a single piece of equipment missing from this one yet, praise God!

My inclosed trailer is a 7X14 at the box, it as a V in the front that adds another 4 or 5 feet. I have a toro Z master with a 48" deck. I also have a 21" next to it. They sit side by side with room to get between the two. There is room of another big mower if I raise the deck on the Z master. What I like about this trailer is it is all alumimum. Even the frame. It is alot lighter, it has wheel brakes which is a must. Tandam wheels is great. If you get a flat you can at lest get to the tire shop to fix it.
I had a Wells Cargo 6x12. It was too small for what if have now.
Determine how big you want to get, then get the right trailer for it.
I not sure, someone here might know. If you get a trailer where the wheels are under the trailer. Can you still get your big mowers Z type in without it craping the wood at the hing area?
If you get a enclose trailer. You might want to invest in having a side door. It makes it nice to get in without opening up the back. I found it nice to have the door about 3 feet from the front. But that depends on the size of the trailer.

One other thing. If you are going to care sprinkler parts like pipe. Go the 20 foot trailer. If you work it right you can put the pipe inside on the ceiling. Out of the way, but nice when you need it.
