I dug out some of my own lawn to plant some hostas, and put the dirt in the back yard and this is growing on it. Any idea what it is?

Awfully sparse for lily of the valley. Can you post a close up pic?

No clue here.

OK, and I'm just guessing here - dayflower. It's a Tradescantia relative; very small succulent (filled with water) slightly pubescent leaves (hairy) and with a 3-part, blue flower that lasts only a day.

Your first picture seemed to have some little white things in the picture. If those were present then and not now, it's not dayflower. But this latest picture appears to be juvenile foliage of dayflower.

Those pictures were taken the same day, just the latter ones where in the sun.

Where could that many seeds come from? I do have a bird feeder over the the area where these have shown up, is it possible it was a seed in a bird food?

With that sort of multitude of plants pretty much the same age, it certainly COULD be the bird food.

Well of course it is the bird seed coming up! What do you think?? LOL!

Nuke it in the microwave to kill the seeds before putting it out silly.

No, it is not lily of the valley. Thanks for the close up.

Nope, not lily of the valley or bird seed or any of the others. But i don't know what it is. I have it on my property as well, along with lily of the valley. I'll ask around a bit.

what had been planted there prior? did you till up the soil before you saw the seedling coming up?

Nothing was planted there, I did some edging in front of the flowerbeds/around the tree to plant some hostas. I didn't till, I just dug it up. I then took all the loose dirt to my back yard, and it grew back there, and is also growing where it came from (where I edged).

It does look like it has some hair on it. Could it be crab grass?
