Does anyone use the 66inch or the 72inch deck sizes? I've been told that going larger than 60inches is a real handicap on residential lawns.

I had a 66", I now have a 60" its much better, the only way u should get a 66-72 is for big commercial jobs, I have a 15 acre job and I only use a 60".:weightlifter:

I just went up to a 72" Lazer. I use it almost everywhere, no problems. It will save you time and money. I also have a 60" Lazer for the tight spots. If you are running 2 or more machines, get the 72" (I think you'll be glad you did), just 1 machine, keep the 60". I had all the same concerns, you just gotta go for it! :weightlifter:

I spoke to the dealer and I'm going with the 30 HP at 66inches. I tried it at my house and it was a breeze.

Thanks for the input folks.

I had a 66" when I first started about 9 years ago, so it may be that I wasnt used to it, but 60" is a good all around size.

I guess I'm not sure about this ... I have a 50" inch deck and sometimes it scalps terrain that is somewhat uneven. Therefore, it seems to me that 60", 66" or 72" would present a little more of a problem in that regard ??

As far as I'm concerned a 50" deck should almost never scalp. I guess it depends on the brand. I've run 60" Lazers for years and they rarely scalp. The 72" can scalp more than a 60" but once you get used to it, this can be prevented. You may want to switch brands, test drive an Exmark and you probably will. They sell 2 to 1 for good reason.

I have a 60" and 66" SuperZ. When I bought the 66", I left the 60" at the dealership for service. Man! I couldn't wait to get my 60" back but really I had zero experience with a 66" cut. But now that I'm used to it, I can make it work pretty well but I never use it on any accounts smaller than a couple acres. The 60" works too well.

Heck, as much as I like my 60", I recently bought a Deere 717A for my smaller residentials. Oftentimes, bigger is not better.

All around perfect size in my opinion....54". I love my 54" 7 IRON, never scalped once!
