Hey guys, wondering, on average, how long this list would take 2 guys to plant:

3 Trees
74 shrubs (2 gal pots)
150 perennials (6'' pots)

If anyone wants to let me know how much you would charge for labor and materials that would be great also. Otherwise just let me know on average how long this would take you. I have a rough idea but would like to get more input. Thanks guys.

What did you bid that work at?

With a power auger, two to three hours tops 2 men.
I charge 2.5 retail for all shrub and tree installs.

thanks for all the info guys. a couple questions yet though.

1st: I would also like to put mulch around everything to protect the plants/shrubs from rock, how much do you think I would need??

2nd: TJLANDS, so you charge retail for plants plus 2.5%?? Just curious, would like to not shoot myself in the foot on this bid.

Well, I dont want to speak for TJLANDS, but I am sure that he was implying 2.5xs i.e 250%. There is no possible way to tell you how much mulch you will need with the info you have given. If you put all those plants in a 20sqft area, you might need a 3cuft bag. If in a 1500sqft area you would need ~13 yrds. @3" depth.

Do you install, maintain, or both? You could get so much more accomplished in a shorter period of time with better equipment. If you say, I can't afford to, I say you can't afford not to... Keep the towing equipment simple (i.e. truck, trailer) but upgrade the stuff that makes the money. Been there...done that...it pays for itself well beyond the initial cost.

Retail X 2.5
So if the plants cost $2500 I would charge $6250
Mulch would be extra at a cost per yard

Try googling "bid time and material"
Click on Time and Material Job Bid.
I agree with alot of the reasons for not bidding with a time and material mentality.

I also charge 2.5x the cost of plant material.
