vertical vs horizontal durability/reliability

Which engines, vertical or horizontal (Kawasaki in particular), have proven to be more durable and reliable?

These are two completely different animals.

they both will last with proper maint. my koh 20 is horiz.
it is about like a new one with a thousand or more hrs.
keep the oil clean.
