Does anyone have experience changing the oil filter on a Kohler 21 HP engine as installed on a Ferris 1000Z. Is it possible to snake it out without removing any hydraulic lines? Any other helpful tips?

Its possible...its also a major PITA. Whoever set it up that way should be forced to change oil filters on that machine for the rest of his life.

I received one response. Does anyone else know if you have to remove a hydraulic connection in order to change the oil filter?

It's quicker to just take the lines off. I've tried to snake the old one out and you can get it but by the time you get it out and stop your knuckles from bleeding, it would have been quicker to just pop the lines off.

We have one customer that has one of these machines and we get to service it. I think this year its getting a remote mount oil filter kit. Kohler has them if you are interested I will try to lookup the part number.

I guess you could remove the lines but make sure you keep everything clean. I have dont it several times. The toughest thing is getting a tool in to loosen it.

Routine maintenance IMO does not include removing hydraulic lines in order to change an engine oil filter. Especially if you are doing that every time...just more opportunity to contaminate the hydraulic system.

Those are all the concerns I had/have when I posted this message. A remote kit would be great, so if you can identify the p/n, I certainly would appreciate it.
