Can anyone give me an idea how many SQ FT of bed a bale of pine straw will cover to 3" once it's pulled and spread?

Thanks,

Thanks,

I've always been told/heard that it was 100 sq/ft per bale. I have found though that it depends greatly on many factors 1) How well the bale is packed, 2) Is it good straw, 3) long needle, short needle, 4) Whats in the bed now?

I mainly eyeball them and buy a few extra. If it is a new cover (meaning no straw there now), I figure 75-80 sq/ft. If it already has old straw I figure 100 sq/ft. Much of the straw that I have gotten this year has not been the best in the world.

The local muclh company here says that 3 bales of straw will cover the same as 1 yard of mulch. That is 80sf per yard so 3 bales is 80sf. I have used this measurement tool several times and it has always worked out for me.....
