Hey everyone I need a little help please.

I just got a ZT 100 and had to put a new deck belt on it. (The one that has cogs on both sides.) How do you time the blades to keep them from hitting?
I see a couple timing marks on the pulleys but have no idea what to align them with.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
PHMTECK

oops almost forgot to tell you it has a 42" rear collection deck on it.

Thanks,

each pulley should have little dot on the top of it. Standing in front looking down at the deck, put one at 12, and one at 3. This should put the blades perpendicular to each other.

A couple things on these machines. Don't know how old yours is but there is a service kit on these for a new idler bracket for tensioning this belt. The slots are cut longer to allow the pulley further travel and more adjustment. This is important because the belts are close to 200 dollars and there's no need to be junking them if you can adjust them more.

Proper belt tensioning should be to tloosen the 3 idler bracket bolts, tighten the nut on the adjust rod so that the washer behind it lines up with the notch on the bracket it mounts to. Start the machine and engage the blades. Double check the tension, adjust if necessary, then tighten the idler bracket down. Also keep an eye on the stationary idler closest to the back of the deck for the timing blades. They tend to start pulling toward the front of the deck over time, throwing the belt tension off.

Is this a brand new model?

We stopped selling them because of a couple continuous problems we were having that Textron failed to recognize and correct.

The "bulkhead" that the blower mounts to, and the pto gearbox that runs the driveshaft mounts to cracks continuously around where the pto box is mounted. All day job to replace this and it happens ALOT. The bulkhead is about 200 for the parts.

Also, the PTO box itself loosens from this bulkhead. There was a service bulletin to use different bolts but that didn't work eather. Bad design having the hydro pump mounted on top of this aluminum box. The best fix i found was to remove all 4 bolts, put in studs with locktite, then use washers and lock nuts to secure the boxes. Very little trouble after doing this. Problem is the boxes are about 500 to replace and you can't buy just the covers. They are an obselete gearbox according the superior gearbox, who manufactured the boxes.

Same thing was happening with the gearbox on the deck that runs the deck belt.

Also, the pulley was dropping off the shaft on this box, causing the belt to drop down close to the deck and cut through the tension spring.

Also, the idlers for the belts need to be lubed constantly because they are prone to freezing up, and some of them did not have grease fittings.

Honestly, aside from this bulkhead issue and the gearbox issues, they were a solid, rugged machine. We had quite a few that lasted well over 2000 hrs of pure abuse. It took 2 years of aggrivation to find that the studs were the only thing that kept the gearboxes in the machine. There was never a fix for this bulkhead issue.. They supposably upgraded it but the last replacedment I ordered was no different from the one that was in the machine.

Here is the bulleting for the bracket,

I have some more info if you need it. If it's a newer model, it's probably had some updates. If you bought it used, you might want copies of the service bulletins I have.

Customers always loved the quality of cut and the lack of clogging of this machine. Here is a picture from a customer of mines website. Because of parts availability issues, he has switched to Navigators since.
