I'm a long time professional landscaper but must admit that i know very little about lawn maintenance. I need someone in the know who can offer information about de-thatching St. Augustine grass. Tips, tricks, equipment, time of year, cleanup afterwards, etc. I would greatly appreciate the help!

thanks, Greg

greg 1,

First off, St. Augustinegrass doesn't usually have a thatch problem unless it was fertilized too heavily and/or mowed on an infrequent basis. If the grass is actually growing on the soil, don't be so quick to think that the only solution is dethatching. If the thatch is less than Ĺ inch thick, I wouldn't worry about it. As far as I am aware, dethatching is done only when the grass is at its peak growing season in June. Hope this helps you out.

From what I've heard, it should be verticut.
I'm ignorant on the subject, since nobody here does it (that I've seen)
It would probably clean up a lot of yards here if it could be sold.
