View Full Version : Most common mowers in your area ?

06-19-2007, 11:49 PM
Im in Massachusetts and it seems like every other trailer has Wright standers followed closely by walker. What about everybody else ?

06-19-2007, 11:57 PM
Talking only about commercial machines, the following is pretty typical:
Gravely (8 - mine), ExMark, Hustler, and some Bad Boy and Ever Ride.
I have seen a few Walkers but they just aren't the machine for the usual acre plus property down here.

Toro, Exmark, Walker, Wright Standers just blew up around here big time, and the occasional Bobcat, cub cadet, or scag.

06-20-2007, 09:27 AM
I see a lot of guys using Exmark, Hustler, Kubota,

06-20-2007, 09:47 AM
SCAG and EXMARK and a toss between grasshopper and cub cadet then Dixie.

06-20-2007, 09:54 AM
mostly all exmarks we run exmarks dixie chopper and toro

06-20-2007, 09:59 AM
In Western Australia its all cylinder mowers on residential, you will see none of the above mowers on a Ressy block.

06-20-2007, 10:22 AM
Saw a trailer this morning with 3 standers. Those things are all over the place.

06-20-2007, 10:38 AM
4 of the 5 BIG guys run Dixon, with JX85 Deere wb's. The other (maybe biggest in town?) runs Walkers with a mix of about all 21"s. For the smaller opperations, there are LOTS more Dixons and Walkers, then a couple Hustlers and like 2 Exmarks. Also two Dixie Choppers mixed in. There are also 2 crews that run 2 Grasshoppers each.

06-20-2007, 11:07 AM
Exmarks and Walkers are by far the top choices around here.

06-20-2007, 11:21 AM
Xmark, Scag, Ferris, Hustler, Toro, and Deere, in that order. I do see some other brands but these are the common one's that i see every day.

06-20-2007, 11:53 AM
In order from most to lest Toro, dixie chopper ,scag.

06-20-2007, 12:25 PM

Man are you ever right about that. Although in my area i'd say there are more Walkers than Wright standers. Some companies thats their main mower, Walker, i see many trailers with 2 or 3 on them. I also see many Standers, thats def. going to be the next mower i purchase. For large zero-turns, the Exmark Lazer Z's are very popular. Scag and Ferris walkbehinds are very common.

06-21-2007, 12:06 AM
Most around here run cheap 21" a couple run John Deere riders (not ZTRs) I think I am about the only one here that uses a larger WB and a Toro at that.

On the State property (capitol and other governement buildings John Deere "out front" mowers.

The city uses larger Toro front mowers.

06-21-2007, 01:49 PM
Where I live it is mostly Scag and Exmark. I work in La. and all I see over there is Dixie Chopper I figure it depends on the dealer availability

06-21-2007, 06:22 PM
1) Deere
2) Exmark & Dixie tie
3) Toro (one company runs Toro and they only have 1 machine)
4) Ferris (one company has only one Ferris 72")

In that order

I would say half of the LCO's around here use wright standers as their primary mowers. Gravely seems to be the #1 choice for walkbehinds. But I also see plenty of Ferris, Scag, Dixie Chopper, and Exmark ZTR's.

Toro, Walker, Grasshopper, Kubota, and John Deere's are pretty rare.

06-21-2007, 07:42 PM
What I see the most are Exmark, feris, toro, scag, deere. Exmark and Ferris is by far the most common around here.

06-21-2007, 09:14 PM
Scag by far around here, then great dane. I'd say exmark is 3rd followed by ferris and wright tying for 4th. Of course this is just what I see.

Most of the small LCO's run Dixie Choppers, but on the big commercial properties I see a lot of Scags. Miami-Dade county puts out for bids on maintaining the medians and roadsides of US1. Seems like all the guys who've won a section in my area are using Scags.
I use a Scag Wildcat 52in deck, with the liquid-cooled Kawasaki; and a Snapper 36in hydro walk-behind.

In my area I know Exmark is the number one mower with John Deere in second, and Scag third. Theres also some Walkers, Dixie Choppers and Great Danes. I have an Exmark 60" Lazer Z and an Exmark 52" Turf Tracer HP.

Here, tons and tons of Walkers and Standers/Sentars. Then Scag and Dane with a few Dixie Choppers. Really dont see many eXmarks or the rest. A few have some junky ass Lesco mowers:laugh:

06-21-2007, 10:14 PM
Around here it is mostly Exmark,Scag, and DixieChopper ztrs. I been seeing a few Hustlers too but not that many.

06-21-2007, 11:05 PM
If I had to guess here in Raleigh, I'd first say Toro, Deere, and Hustler run a very close 1,2,3.

Then probably Exmark, Cub Cadet, Gravely, Everride, Scag, Kubota, Ferris, and Dixie.

Oddly enough, you rarely see any stander type mowers or Walkers.

06-23-2007, 06:39 AM
Almost everyone around here has scag, one bigger lco uses encore, and i see a lot of toro wb and huster z's I honestly don't see exmark around that much which is weird.

06-23-2007, 12:12 PM
Exmarks seem to be most popular here

06-23-2007, 01:27 PM
eXmark, Toro, then Scag seem to rule the Tampa area..

06-23-2007, 10:14 PM
alot of toro and exmark and a few lesco's around me

06-23-2007, 10:52 PM

07-14-2007, 01:16 AM
I know how you feel dannyboy. I'll drive along with my Farris and feel like I'm one of the few who doesn't own a stander

07-15-2007, 10:19 AM
Scag, Toro, Deere down here

07-15-2007, 03:44 PM
no joke, Craftsman 21 inchers, then Honda 21's. i have a 36 husqvarna, there are 2 solo lco's with ExMark 36's, one LCO with an ancient bunton 36, thats it. there are 4 lco's in my town that have a w/b mower bigger than 21 inches. ive seen ONE commercial ZTR here, same guy with one of the exmark w/b.

07-15-2007, 05:31 PM
I see a lot of John Deere riders here and almost large wb. I've only seen two large wb in use this year and I have one of them.

07-15-2007, 11:06 PM
Hustlers are taking over my area. I just bought a super z on Friday. Demo one and you'll switch over.

07-15-2007, 11:13 PM
Starting to see some more Grasshoppers around... Walker too. I think you can put my name on the Walker list here in about a week hopefully :)

07-15-2007, 11:24 PM
i live in brentwood, tennessee

1. toro
2. exmark
3. scag
4. dixie chopper

07-15-2007, 11:26 PM
21" lawnboys. Not many ride ons or zturns in my area.

07-15-2007, 11:48 PM
Heres the Central IL List:

1. Grasshopper Front Mount Mowers (Big company runs them)

2. Toro/eXmark Z's

3. Dixie Chopper Z's

Very rarely do you see any John Deere, Standers, Ferris and other brands. I personally, run all Toro mowers and STIHL hand helds.

07-16-2007, 06:27 PM
Here3 it's Exmark. Then John Deere.

07-16-2007, 07:21 PM
1. Scag
