Just wandering what your biggest lawn is for residential
and how much you charge and how long it takes.

Mine is $260.00 -9 man hours- not a super hrly rate
it is about 3 irrigated and manicured acres
with about 300 trees to trim around

The largest residential I had was when I was down in Florida. It paid $825 per month. It was an ocean front estate in Manalapan. It was pretty sweet. They only lived there a month or two in the winter time. The rest of the year it was for rent... for around $40,000 a month  It was for sale too.. for $12,000,000

Today the largest is $90 per cut.

Being honest,$50.00 per cut.,1.25 acres, mow time just over hour, trim, blow five min.Not too bad I hook up,check my mower over, mow amd back under 2 hours.Lot of traffic to deal with on this job.

Mine is $185, it is actually 3 houses owned by the same person, all very nice, but nothing really spectacular. There is alot of grass with in the commons area, and a fair amount of trimming to be done. There is also a 580ft hedge that gets trimmed 3x a season(not included in the $185).

I've got 2 lawns that are side by side and about 1 acre apiece.

They get cut together every friday for $50 apiece. Takes roughly 1.5 to 2 hrs each time.

Monthly it comes to $400 for about 6 to 7 hrs work.

I have 2 lawns side by side $375 + 425 takes 3 guys about 5 hrs in summer + fall, 6-7 hrs in spring. These are exceptional accounts that took years to find these types. They keep us busy Mon.-Wed. with edging, weeding, pruning, etc. at a flat hrly rate. My next highest lawn is $60,avg lot around here is 1/2 acre or smaller so lawns aren't that big.The other 2 are just summer homes, nobody there 9 months of year.I have garages at both places to keep equipment at,one of them owns a Kubota loader + york rake for us to use to clean his beach weekly.Sorry for bragging but after 15 yrs of scraping thru the 80's til now it's nice to have such sweet accounts.

No drunks on my accounts LOL, not sure last i heard they hired help themselves, caretaker + helpers. The Kennedy compound, besides ocean view is not that nice of landscape.I'm in Woods Hole gated community, almost an island w/340 degrees of ocean view looking at Martha's Vineyard, Elizabeth Islands + canal . The best part of the accounts besides the perks is the customers. I've worked for people w/ money who talk down at you, these people treat us great.:blob3:

Highest Res. (0nly have 6 ..rest are commercial)

This is also the nicest property we maintain... works out to about $380.00 per cut.... this does not include fert or weed control.
Usually takes 2.5 hrs including travel with 3ppl.
These customers are always good for extras also.
Bottom line is.... probabaly around $50.00 per man hour.

We have a few industrial , commercial accounts that are basically the mow and blow types that probably work out to a better hourly rate .

complainers or picky
or do they appreciate your work and
and greatful for your work
I have some of both???

Largest cut is 5.5 acres, $205 per cut. Takes about 5 hours Not Bad.

Next smallest is 3.5 acres, $140 per cut. Takes about 4.5 hours, lots of trimming. Just started this one last week.

Average lawn goes $40 to $45 with trimming, blow-off drive etc...

Some are picky customers, most don't care. Don't want to bothered, and some don't even wave.

Our best paying Residential that does not have us put his bill onto the invoice at the office is 114m/sf = $142/cut. This property will take on average 90 minutes for a one man crew to mow/trim/blow with a 48" deck includeing travel time above and beyond the regular route.

We could cut it with a 60" or the 72" Scag STHM, but then we would be forced to drop our price. At this figure we gross $94.80/hr for a one man show.

kutnkru,

Why would you be forced to drop your price?

kutnkru
08-25-2001, 02:35 PM
This is not normally how we bill our clients. In this instance we cut three lawns near the end of the hill the client at hand lives on. We cut the first lawn take a right turn climb the hill for 10 minutes, cut the property, drop back off the hill and stop the truck one house up on the right from the corner.

We bill this particular area according to how long it takes us to cut. If I am able to keep them satisfied in 90 minutes, by using a mower capable of higher production then my overall time would drop - thus a decrease in price.

The client said and is happy to pay us for our time to travel up to their home. We have an agreement that they compensate us for the additional time their property takes away from our route because they are not in the area (directly).

Hope this clarifies.

My biggest cut would have had to be last year. I had done I believe 3 like that 150 a cut, sorry. Another one was 125 per cut. Each place was every week. Together they would have taken 3 people one 6 hr day, roughly. This year because of a flier I had gone to look at one place, I had told the caretaker $500 per cut, he said no problem. However nothing ever came from it because they went with the old guy again.

Kris, I was just wondering. How can you take 1 hour 20 minutes for a job, do 10 of them and be done by noon? Just wondering. I think I need your watch, it works better than mine. :D

I have 2 lawns, side by side, each 1 acre. They are 70.00 each and mowed every week. Takes 2.5 manhours total. Mow 1/3 with a Walker 42", and other 2/3 with a 60" ztr. Wish I had about 20 more like these!:D

We have several in the $150-$175 range
None of these take more than 1.5 hours for a 2-man crew.

Have been at it for 7 years, the fattest was a property owned by acrtress Jessica Lange that was $350.00 per cut, cut weekly. About 7 man hours to do a good job.

Dan G,myaccoutant has me not taxing lawn care,as it is a service, and not taxable in New York, are you collecting tax on services?
"The best one that i do takes myself and my helper 20 minutes to mow, stringtrim and blow off the driveway and walks and i get $50+ tax "

I hope i havent been doing wrong, gotta call my accountant again tomorow.

In PA Lawn care is a taxable service for some reason. When I got a new accountant in the spring he had never even heard of this untill i showed him documentation. The Sales tax laws in Pa are really rediculous but ya have to charge them. For exmaple.... Pruning shrubby is not taxable but If i prune shrubery in conjuntion with doing lawn services in the same day it becomes taxable! I sure do hope PA wipes out Sales tax for us!

We dont do any residential work, but our best commerical project is $1,200.00 per week and it takes two guys 9 hours with drive, load and lunch time. Cut it 24 times a year no matter what and it is a six year contract. Wish I had twenty more like it. JusT my two cents

We bid a residential this season at $500.00 per week. Did not get the account, the property owner is doing it himself. He did say that our bid was competitive.

MY best is 30 mins. 21" £ 40
My normal is 18" 15 mins £10

WHY BUY A BIG MOWER

GLM
09-02-2001, 09:22 AM
Some times bigger isn't better. My best money to mow time lawn takes my one minute and thiry seconds of actual mowing time for $25 minimum and I have two of these tiny lawns on the same street. It sure beats some of my larger 50 minute lawns that pull in $50. If I could have it my way I would cut small lawns for a minumum all day long they allow my to make upwards of $125 per hour when I do them all in a row. It takes longer to load and unload than to mow the lawn. A lot less wear and tear on the equipt for the income earned.

The biggest residential account that we have is a full maintenance contract. It is $400 a month year-round. It is a 5 acre lot with a 3,000 sq. ft. house(mansion) and a tennis court. We laid 20 yards of mulch and planted 9 flats of flowers at the residence. We got this account from her next door neighbor who is her daughter. This is one of our favorites.

hey Lawnshark, i was just wondering what you considered a mansion. i wouldnt say 3,000 sq. ft. is a mansion at all. hell, my house is that big and its just a Log Cabin. my stepfather's farm has a mansion on it and was built in the late 1800's. its 8500+ sq. ft.

i guess it depends on how the house looks too. i dont know, i was just wondering.

$80. per service visit. Straight cutting, little trimming and no edging. 1 hour. Kind of a sweet deal.

Lawnsmith- I am guessing that the 3000 sq feet is not every floor, just the outside perimeter (1st floor). Even then, its not absolutely huge, but still pretty damn big. Just my guess though, I am usually wrong.

$590 per month year round. $350/per lawn app. 5X (extra)
And this is the guy's spring home he is not even home most of the time. I guess his neighbors enjoy the lawn.

My best is yet to come.Just signed a contract {3 years} for a new millionaire to be starting in spring of 02 27acres $2300 week all year.Snow removal on 1/4 mile drive 18ft wide with a 6k parking area near house. This account proves that quality work on all jobs will pay off. This customer has been with me since April of this year her former res. was an acre $65 per cut.She informed me in June that she was going to be getting a rather large settlement very soon and she would like to have my services at her new estate.I thought she was kidding. When the work starts I will try to get some pics to post. :D

My biggest one probably is a gentleman who has his own regulation-size Little League baseball field on his own property. Two of us mow that and the rest of his lawn for $285 per cut and trim. Takes 2 of us 1 1/2 hours using 2 Ferris 61" WB's with Velkies. I have another one that I use one of my 72" Toro Groundmaster and a 61" Ferris WB for $225 (nice estate!) Takes about an hour and a half to mow and trim.
