After checking some figures, I've actually found that I make great money on some of my worst lawns. For instance, I have two lawns next to each other for 20 and 25 , together they take 25 minutes. That's my most profitable lawn, how bout you guys?
Well, along the same lines:
The 3 smallest lawns I have sit next to each other and all get cut every friday at $25 apiece. It takes about 50 minutes from driveup to drive away. I don't unload the Laser-just snatch the 20" off the trailer and go. I do them first thing in the morning so I'm getting in my 'walk' for the day early.
They are my most profitable...timewise. They are nice little patches of turf though.....
I think the 4th one is about to call...I'm trying to get the whole cul de sac. :D
same here . i have one ive had for 18 yrs. fairly lg but nothin in the way anywhere. i still chg her 30 as im there an gone in
25-30. sorry to say i dont think the run will last too much longer.

Those type are the best to do early in the morning, versus the thick luscious turf type lawns where the morning dew can really become problematic.

I recently had to switch to mowing part-time. I sold off my big lush estate lawns and kept the small " high dollar for low effort " lawns.

I HAVE TWO LAWNS NEXT DOOR TO EACH OTHER AND COUNTING UNLOAD TIME AND LOAD TIME, WE ARE IN AND OUT IN 22 MINUTES, THEY ARE $30.00 EACH. I FELT BAD ABOUT THE TOO HIGH PROFIT, SO I GIVE THE FREE FERTILIZATION ALSO. ALTHOUGH THEY WERE HAPPY WITH JUST MY LAWN SERVICE.
THEIR PREVIOUS LAWN CARE COMPANY CAME AND CUT THEIR LAWNS AT THEIR OWN CONVIENENCE, SO THEY WERE HAPPY TO GET US.

The smallest lawn I have is actually priced UNDER my minimum. To stop I charge $30 to start, then add for longer times. This lawn is $25, and takes me all of 5 minutes with the push, and weed pulling!

i got one little golf course condo account
with 11 yards at 24 each
$264 total- takes me 2-3.5 hrs. by myself
Got real lucky cause yards are small and \
unirrigated.
I would rather take 4.5 hrs. and have
lusher grass though

all we really got are small props. they are good for margins when you look at time spent there but once you factor in drive time, gas, etc, those margins can look "normal" again.
i'm betting when my guys pull up to each house, they sit, rest, listen to Stern finish his bit, etc. if i had bigger props they'd spend more time in production, rather than sitting on their butts.
but i guess the saying the grass is always greener is all too PERFECT.

BILL
When you sold your accounts did you sell for a percentage or was it based on number of cut type figures???
Just curious.

I have right up the road from my house, on another road. 2 homes that are right across from eachother. They are each $30 per cut. When they are dry they take me by myself 1 hr to cut, sometimes not even. One woman brings me out a soda if its hot outside. I am not all that happy with that arrangement though. On that one road i had at one time I believe 6 lawns all lined up. Cheapest one was $25. 3 of them were $35 a cut. The other 2 were $30 a cut. That was a sweet deal. It took me by myself about 2 - 3 hrs. However during the past 2 years I believe I had about 9 lawns up that road all lined up, boom boom boom. Wish i still had that. Good money in just sitting in one place and doin a lot of lawns.

I want call them crappy, our best lawns are the small $80-125/ month lawns. You are in and out in no time and we make far more than out $200/month lawns.

Part of one crew's Friday route cut 7 lawns next to each other, they take 7 man-hours and gross $325.00. With no driving/unloading/loading time between them I'm happy with that money!

Our best paying Residential that does not have us put his bill onto the invoice at the office is 114m/sf = $142/cut. This property will take on average 90 minutes for a one man crew to mow/trim/blow with a 48" deck includeing travel time above and beyond the regular route.

I don't have any yds that i cut under 30min, although i was doing a 90dollar yd thur and across the street a guy on a grasshopper was done in 10min, I took around 1hr/15min mine looked like the pro-cut this other guys looked awful he didn't ever trim or blow his clippings off the street. Plus he left terrible gashes in the lawn, but he gets paid every week for this crap. Oh yey ive seen alot of the super fast cutting crews but never a good job, I don't see how a one man show like myself could possibly unload cut, trim, edge, blow, and make sure that all the paper is up in 15mins on anyones yd. I reckon thats why my work sells so well if its not right ill stay till it is. 9yds a day is all i can get in,but they are big lawns and pay is very pricey Thur and Friday is a 70plus average per yd which is fairly good as ive been solo now for over 10yrs. I have two townhomes side by side and I get $22.50 each. It takes about 45 minutes with trimming, blowing, etc. Not a bad deal considering these are near my lunch stop.
