I publicly would like to thank Pj (mowerconsultant) & Bill McClaren from McClaren's in Syracuse for bringing their machines up here to Rochester for a demo. Pj & Bill spent four hours with us. They brought up two Hustler z's, one with the Bac-Vac attachment, and a Super Z.
The machines were terrific!!! My experience with ZTRs is very limited, but there were several other LCOs I invited to the demonstration, two of whom currently use Dixie Choppers. Everyone was completely blown away by the speed, the cut, the amazingly heavy duty construction of the frame and deck, and the simplicity of the design. One fellow just recently bought a Lazer Z, but after he rode the Hustler, swore he was going to put the Lazer up for sale. I mentioned to Pj in an email that I think he's won over the two Dixie guys as well. They love their Choppers but were completely impressed by the Super's speed and construction.
I gotta tell ya, the Super is FAST!! And what an excellent cut! The Bac-Vac worked perfectly. Such a simple design. No getting off the machine. Just reach behind, pull the lever to dump the load, and go.
Once again, I'd really like to thank Pj & Bill. You guys have a product that I think is gonna be THE mower to use in the coming months and years.

Skip,
I am glad to hear you had a great demo. Now more will understand where I am coming from, not only with the construction, but the Hustler people who do most anything to help us out. Even bring machines for a demo, that's awesome. Go save your money Skip, maybe we can both get the Super Z next year.

I have nothing but good things to say about the hustlers that i have. ( I have two 251k's)

I wouldn't mind looking at a super-z and seeing how it compares to the Toro heads up mowing. I know that they are built strong as heck and have been around forever.

The main reason I bought Toro z-masters is because they are better on hills then the 251's.

And also Hustler does not have a dealer close by to here which is sad being that Albany is the capital of NY after all.

When ever I need parts I have to order them from Roberts Equipment in Syracuse or from a dealer down state near Accord.

DanG, I demo'd the Super Z on some steep hills. It would sidehill them awesome. I can put my Scag Turf Tiger on them, but there is no adhesion of the upper drive tire, it just slides. The Super Z still had enough downpressure to manuever the machine. Lets just say it has no trouble with hills.

Eric,
He is looking at the Hustler Super Z. It should be like the one you demo'd. It has a 25hp Kaw and a 60" deck. 72" deck will be coming soon. Right PJ?

How is the Super Z (25/60) priced, compared to a comparable Lazer (25/60)? and how do they compare and differ? I'm sorry if this may have been asked before.

Eric,

I'm sorry. I wasn't trying to be secretive or anything. I wasn't going to say anything till I actually got the machine. But Crazygator is right--it's the Super Z, 25 Kaw with 60" deck. Believe me, I will keep you posted :)

TJLC,

mowerconsultant will answer your questions when he logs on, but from what little I know, the Hustler Z (not the super) is Hustler's equivalent of the Lazer Z. The Super Z was built to compete with Dixie Choppers. Unfortunately, I don't have much experience and I can't give you a side-by-side comparison. I don't know how the Hustler Z and the Lazer Z compare pricewise, but I do know that the Super Z is considerably less than the Dixie XW2600. Sorry for my lack of knowledge.

DanG,
WE will have you a dealer in your area soon.
We have been taking care of customers in your area through our dealer in Syracuse, Mclaren Automotive, not Roberts Equipment, they are NOT a Hustler dealer anymore.
Mclaren has been selling parts and units in your area since spring, people are happy, but I understand, you need a local dealer, and you shall, hopefuly by fall.
E-mail me your info and dealers that you deal with and I will let you know who we are working with in your area right now.
In the mean time call Bill or Terri at Mclaren's 315-423-9560, he will make sure your taken care of !!, maybe even do a Super Z demo for you.

TJLC,
The 25/60 regular Hustler Z will be 8695.00 w/o suspension seat and 8995.00 with suspension seat.
The Super Z 25/60 is 8995.00 w/o suspension seat and 9390.00 with suspension seat.
Of course these prices are list, but I know your dealer will give you better pricing, call him and find out.

Thanks, mowerconsultant and skipwatson for the info. I asked my dealer about Hustler vs Lazer and he pushed the Lazer. He said he can get the hustler Z but didn't reccomend it over a Lazer. A new 25/60 Lazer Z is about $8400.00 out the door, so the two mowers are close in price. He stocks Dixie's and Lazers so I guess naturally, he will push what he carries. I guess it would be like going to a Chevy dealer and asking the salesman what he thinks of Fords.LOL

This has been one of the most informative and professional threads I've read in quite awhile
Makes me want to go buy a new super Z.
Had my heart set on a new Exmark this winter now I have to re-evaluate that's what is needed to make people think.

Kroll,
Take a good look at the Hustler Z's
Compare em side by side if possible with the competition.
I think the Hustler will come out the winner.
Ask some Hustler owners what they think.
