I've heard a lot about blower lately and I'm still don't know what blower to get. But that's beside the point. I am looking for a trimmer in general what's your favorite? BUT I probably am looking to get a shaft edger, and I was wondering if Red Max or Shindaiwa make any of those trimmers that can have other attachments put on them?<br>Are those multipurpose trimmers with all those attachments any good? Or should I get a shaft edger, and a trimmer(2 separate pieces of equiptment)??? I am very confused. Help Please. If you need some clarifying on the questions just ask! If this is really confusing I'm not surprised, I am writing this at 4 in the morning. Don't ask.<br>But please help me out with my dilema here. <p>Thanks<br>Grassboy

Whats up grassboy? First and most importantly, how much money do you want to spend on this?? Not that its any of my business, but in your 50 other posts you have been looking at some top of the line equipment. From what I understand (from what you said) You don't have a trailer or truck, right? I think its great that your starting young and your doing it the right way by asking around here, plus thats how I started. Lemme suggest one thing....without picking on you if thats how this sounds: Why don't you buy a 48&quot; WB, a trimmer and a blower and start saving the money you earn to put towards a truck and/or trailer? Unless you have some kind of endless money tree, wich I don't think you do cause you prob wouldn't be spending on lawnmowers, how do you expect to pay for all this equipment??<br>Hope I helped. By the way, try reading some of the older posts, because they have the answers for the questions you've been asking lately.<p>Like I said before, drop me an e-mail if you'd like to talk<br>amnguido@hotmail.com<p><p>----------<br>&quot;guido&quot;<br>David M. Thanks so much Guido,<p>That is very helpful. The plan you suggested their is just exactly what I am trying to do. I have $1200 saved up for equiptment. I was very picky on the mower prices I looked at so I think the Turf Tracer is best for me. However, I really have thought this over and since the top of the line blowers and trimmers aren't that bad in price, I decided to get the best (well not the best but close to it) for my trimmer and blower. I mainly want something that will last and is the most powerful. I have found most people go w/ Red Max for blowers. I probably will too, is this a wise idea? I am however confused greatly about a trimmer and an edger!!! Does Red Max or Shindaiwa make those multiple attachment things where I could attach a trimmer to it, then switch it to an edger? If so are they powerful and durable. Do the multiple attachment series things make the trimming/edging look worst than just buying a stick edger and a trimmer and using those???? That's my main concern. Anyone wanna help???

I still do not understand???? Maybe its me.<p>$1200 saved up<p>Exmark turf tracer (I'm not good w/ prices I've been away from the industry for a while. Maybe someone could correct me and prove my point<p>$1200 - $4000 = NEGATIVE $2800<br>$-2800 - $600 for trimmer/blower/ = $3,400 IN THE HOLE???<p>You have been looking at prices right? You understand that $1200 won't go too far buying the new equipment your looking at right?? Have you been looking at used too?<p><p>----------<br>&quot;guido&quot;<br>David M. Famiglietti

hey for trimmes go with the echo srm 2400 or a red max. I have echo trimmers and they are pretty good. Echo also makes a split shaft trimmer that you can use for edging, trimming and a bunch of other thing as well. I think it costs about 300.00 and the atachments are about 100.00 - 150.00 each it should be cheaper than bying both trimmer and edger especilly if your not going to be using the edger as much. For a blower, red maxx eb 6200 is definitaly worth the extra money.

I would go for the Stihl gear. Most power<br>best quality. But a bit heavy though.Being<br>a young bloke, you might prefer the Shindaiwa<br>T230 which is nice and light.

Sup Guido,<p>Okay, I have definately looked very closely at the prices. I am just starting to get into the business professionally that why I only have $1200. But the I am going to take advantage of Exmarks No payments for 6 months policy, and get the mower, earn the money to pay it off, and pay it off in August. I'll be able to pull it off. I have done multiple calculations to find how much I'll be making. And after paying off all the equiptment, I'll make about $3500 At the least, for a profit. <br>Do you understand now????

I'm not going to get into whether or not you can afford new equipment or not. What I will say is buy a stihl.I bought one the first year i started my business(5 years ago)and it is still in constant use.Plus stihl has a life-time guarantee on its shaft. We have not only used that trimmer for residential and commercial but we have also bought a saw for it and used it for brush removal. So if you want to buy a good trimmer that will last you more that a couple of years than I suggest that you buy a stihl. Also remember to buy a top of the line stright shaft.

I am very happy with the echo line, I have been mowing for over 5 years now and I have tried a lot of stuff out there and echo seems to be the best for me. Everyone has there own prefrences kinda like ford and chevy.

I have two Echo 2400 series trimmers, one is a split boom which i bought a trimmer attachment and also a edger attactment, the thing works great. The edger was like $120 i think and the trimmer was like $80 or $90. Its a great buy and the quality of the Echo equipment is great. Also have the PB 603 backpack, thing is awsome. Paid $420. Great Power.

I've got a Stihl FS85 split-shaft with the trimmer head and the pole saw attachments, I wish I'd bought one to start off with. It works great and only takes a second to swap out attachments.

I've had good luck with echo, but I also have a Murayama trimmer that is about six years old and starts on the first pull.

The biggest sellers in my part of the woods ( north GA ) would be either Stihl or Echo. I chose the Stihl because I liked the BR 420C magnum blower better than Echo's blower. I am glad that I decided on Stihl. All of my stuff is Stihl. It's a little on the heavy side but it is all balanced very well. You can't go wrong with a Stihl.

I think I should be a spokesman for Stihl:D

redmax here,

I have purchased the latest one on 12-31-02 (taxes ya know)

It was a Redmax 2500 extreme with all the attachments; edger, pole saw, pole hedger and of course sting trimmer.

I got all of this for $850.00 tax included.... a sweeeet deal.

I have used Stihl and Echo but nothing compares to Redmax for head speed and dependability...

The multi purpose tools are great. All the major manuf. have their own versions. I have an Echo, and love it. You could buy one (go for dealer support ) and get the trimmer, edger, and hedge trimmer attachments to start. When you start making $ buy another one w/ the same attachments. You'd have 2 of everything and it won't take up much space at all. You won't have any down time due to your 2 cycle stuff for years to come. As for the blowers... get the biggest, baddest backpack you can find (remember... think about dealer support) and back it up w/ a small handheld blower when the $ starts rollin' in. Hope this helps.

I have an old FS 44 Stihl, dont know how old it is. At least 5 to 7 years old. It has never missed a lick and is used every day during the "season".

The best trimmer is a light trimmer. Most all the manufacturers are heading that way now. I have used Echo’s 2601 and RedMax’s BC2600, and they do get heavy when being used all day.

Now I’ve been using Husqvarna’s and Kawasaki’s. They are lighter but still have good power. Also, I now prefer the 22cc or 23cc models because for simple trimming, you usually won’t need more power than that.

If you want all the attachments, then yes, it would be good to get something like that but you will pay some real cash for it. If is going to be your only power tool, then get ready to do a lot of changing out, maybe even at every job.

I have one of these, but leave the edger on all the time and keep the long hedge trimmer and chain saw attachments on standby.

Lastly, buy smart --- buy mail order and save some money.

First of all, Do you have any equipment at all? If not you will need a walk behind mower (a 36 inch is cheapest $2,000.00, a trimmer echo srm2100 will do you nicely $199.00, a hand held blower echo 2100 $140.00. Unless your doing leaf cleanups you want need a backpack blower that cost $500.00. By the equipment you need as you go. Save your money for the backpack blower thourgh the summer, you want need it till fall. Check with your small engine shops and flee markets you might find a deal on used hand held equipment. You should save about half. Used echo equipment will get you by. Nothing wrong with some of the other brands, I've only had experence with USED echo.

Lesco has Kawasaki weedwackers... I really like them. Lightweight. Good power. And they last all season without maintenance :D

Previously I used only Echo SRM 2400s and I feel the Kawasaki is better. I'm completely sold on Kawasaki string trimmers.

I also use a Red Max backpack blower. Fantastic performance and reliability.

Echo 2100 or 2400 and add the EDGIT ( ww.edgit.com ).
teach yourself how to "follow the edge" left handed and you will be way ahead. The only trimmer/edger you need.

I think by now he either got a trimmer or went out of business. This thread was pulled up from 2000. After 3 full seasons since then I bet he's got one and ready for a new one.

I agree. Stihl vs Echo = Ford Vs Chevy I have used Echo trimmers and love em! I have a straight shaft 2400 that is going into its 6th year and still going strong, while taking care of 40 some properties each year plus my farm. Even more impressive, ( although I look like an idiot,) is that i ran over it on accident with my full size pick up truck the first year and did a number to the shaft. I took of the entire head, then put the shaft down a 1 inch drain hole in the concrete floor of our garage and pulled it to straighten it back out. STILL WORKS GREAT TODAY!!!:) :) :) I would caution against one thing though IMHO I would buy a second trimmer, when money allows, and use the all purpose trimmer and the various attachments foreverything except trimming. You will use the trimmer 20 to 1 probably over all the other attachments so don't wear your aceesory Echo out trimming with it. ( Does that make any sense?)

True, it's an old thread but the information is still valuable and the discussion is still good because you know there are people out there that are wondering about this very thing.
