Help With Pine Tree!

Okay, I know I've migrated to the Lawn section of the forum for a while, and I've neglected this section, but hopefully all my old friends will come through for me! ;) I need a hand!!


I have not a clue about tree's and plants, I'm into hardscaping!
(Most of you know this already)

We have a Pine tree in the Generals front yard and the Mrs. wants to know why the tree bleeds sap so much? The only answer we had at the time was the unusually hot tempatures we've been having. I'm not sure if thats B.S. or not??

What can cause this? Is there a way to help deter the sap from bleeding? I thought it was natural, but she seems to think it doesn't regularly do this.

What kinda pine?

Longleaf Pine Trees can be free bleeders!

Anytime the bark is breeched, it bleeds.
Birds, bugs, even wind can be responsible.
Has the thing lost a limb or two recently?

Not only that, but the new growth is sappy too. As well as the spots where the cones and anthers develop and later fall off.

What part of the tree is sapping?
Sometimes these things just ooze.

Less sap is produced in the cold months, but not by much.


Make sure the General dosen't park his car under it! LOL!

Does it have orange colored bark and buds?
