ok, so my truck has developed a squeak in it while backing up, and while slowing down, but only from 5 MPH to 0 MPH. it's kind of a springy type squeak. what i'm thinking is the following possbilities:

U-joints
rear wheel bearings (it's squeaking from the rear end)
rear brakes rubbing

any ideas, and what to check for?

thanks,
Mike L.

Rear Drum Brakes. Someone can correct me, but thats what it sounds like, plus the drums adjust when your in reverse so that could be why they squeak in reverse also.

My bet is on the rear u-joint.

I will second the rear u-joint. Mine did the same thing and I replaced them, no more squeak

Replace both of the u joints. Is there a small "clunk" when shifting from reverse to drive? I will bet that the front most u joint on the rear driveshft is the culprit. They put up with a lot of stress because they are attached to the slip yoke....

Lube your slip-yoke.
