View Full Version : 2 questions-16 footer

Anybody know the actual curb weight of an unloaded 7k gvwr 16' landscape trailer? I've tried checking their website, called the dealer, can't seem to find the info anywhere. It's a 2003 Carry-on 16' dual axle with side rails and 2 pice tailgate.
My 2nd question, has anyone tried to make tailgate assists themselves? I was looking at some premade ones, I think they're called Gorilla tailgate assists. Way too much money, but I thought maybe I could put something together with garage door springs. Any thoughts?

My 16 footer weighs in at 1800 lbs empty. That is prolly close to the average for most 16 footer tandem axle trailers. Mine has the 7000k GVWR and break away kit and brakes on all 4 wheels. As far as the tailgate assist goes, there have been a few posted on here about some home made ones with pics, etc that are very nice. Just do a little research and I m sure you can find them.

thanks! I was surprised to read 1800, I would have guessed a little lower, maybe 12-1400. But definitely good to know. And I'll try that search. I did browse through a few pages looking, but I didn't actually do a search.

You are most welcome!!!:waving: Yeah, my trailer is built like a brick sh*t house, so it may be a little heavier. But figure at least 1200 lbs. My little 6.5 x 10 weighed 880 lbs empty. Good luck with the search and let us know what you come up with.

I would say 1800 is about right my 16' trailer has 4' mesh sides and it weighs 2300 pounds empty
