Few questions:
What printer do you have and what did it cost?
How much to each of the toner cartridges cost and how many do you have to replace?
Approximately how many printed pages do you get out of a set of toner cartridges?

Dell 5100CN color laser -- about $500 on sale
$215 for a set of 1 black and one of each color cartrage. about 4-5000 pages depending on how much of each color is in the printouts. example you might use up a crayn cartrage every 4000 pages while my black has lasted over 8000

Sweet, I am going to look into getting one. I'd save a ton of $ on ink cartridges...

actually only 99 anymore. but they are ink and not lazer.... and there can be problems with the all in one machines. IE if you have printing problems, then you lose your copier, and fax machine.... if you have scanner problems, then you loose copier and fax machine...
that being said. I pulled an HP photosmart 2510 out of the trash can that one of the student was throwing away, and aside from a few paper jams (every 20 pages or so) it never missed a beat. But I picked up a throwaway laserjet 4 for the bulk of my office printing.
It amazing what people throw away here....I could probably run a side business on ebay and pull down a grand a month...

I got a lexmark C510. I buy high yield replacement cartridges as well as toner refills off E-bay. Lexmark C510 is great because there is no chip to deal with when refilling them. Some brands, when you buy buy toner refill you have to deal with a soldiering a chip. so be aware. Because buy the printer is CHEAP, they get you on the ink and the toner. So you have to buy your own.

Yeh Aint it something when the ink is more expensive than the printer....about 2 years ago I went into office max to buy new ink...I ended up buying a better printer that came with ink for the same price...

Yep, I was thinking the same thing a few weeks ago.
1 black and 1 color inkjet cartridge, total 45-50 bucks, and for that price I can get virtually the same(or better) inkjet printer, and it comes with 2 cartridges.
Though I have been told that in some cases, new printers' cartridges come filled less than full though I've never been able to verify that.

Never buy a inkjet with two cartridges, I don't think you can refill them.
Buy one that has black and three colours, Cyan, magenta and yellow. 4 Cartridges. (I'm not sure about the 5 cartridges one)
Then you can go to Island Inkjet or some such place and buy 4-12 oz. bottles of ink. You drill a hole in the top of the cartridge, inject ink with a syringe and plug it with hot glue.
You can refill a cartridge for about $3 (if that).
Inkjet printers are really good for pictures and return enevelopes.. little envelopes don't seem to fit in my colour laser printer.
