Usually mow first. But it depends on the overgrowth of what needs to be trimmed and edged. If it is crazy, then I do the majority of the edging and trimming first so I can mulch up the debris with the mower.

Same here. Why waste time trimming something because you arent sure if you can get to it with a mower or not, or leave something that the mower cant get to and having to come back with the trimmer again.

We trim first, then mow. It leaves a cleaner look in my opinion.

First cut of the season, or taking on a new lawn that needs shaped up... Matt will trim first. But otherwise, it's easier to mow first. Trim first, and you'll find yourself trimming more than necessary.

If you mow the same yards every week, how can you not know what the mower will or will not cut? I always trim and edge first since it does leave a cleaner look, like Midwest said.

I try to trim my regulars twice as low as the mow so I can do a quicky trim or no trim at all the next week. I know it seems lazy on my part but my customers don't seem to notice or mind and it saves me a bunch of time.

Mow then trim most of the time. If it's about to start raining I might trim first so I don't have grass stuck to my leg the rest of the day.

I trim first, then mow. The trimmer will cut off the turf before the mower wheel bends it down.
I agree with a comment above regarding familiarity with the lawns. After working the same properties year after year, the excess trimming is not a problem -- I know where the mower will travel. Sometimes I will trim a bit differently, so that the mower wheel can run in a different place than the previous visit. This will help eliminate rutting close to the edge.

same here...trim first, then mow. mowing last picks up the trimmer debris. also, once you get to know your mower, u should have a good idea on what to trim or not.

I always trim first. It gives a much cleaner look. Then you can mow over the clippings and mulch or bag them. Whichever you prefer...:weightlifter:

Trimming first looks better, but then when you do that first, you never know where you will get and what you will miss, then you'll have to go back and trim again.

I normally mow first then trim on lawns I know. New lawns that are a bit overgrown get the trimming first then mowing to take care of all the extra crap I just trimmed up. Pretty much the same thing everyone else has said. That sounds like the way to go.

I mow then trim. If there is a section that created a small pile after trimming I hit it with the blower to disperse it.

In the summer doesn't that all burn up and leave a brown border around everything??

I only do it in spots where its not real noticable like fences or around bushes. It browns some but not so much that it looks real bad.
