I am new to slit seeding, so I have few questions. I bought a used Olathe 38 seeder (three point hitch) and a walk behind turf revitalizer. My plan is to spray the lawn with Roundup, wait an mow and vacuum after it dies. Again, spray anything that didn't die the first time. I done a soil test earlier this year and added lime to bring the PH up. I was thinking about broadcast seeding half of the seed and aeravating (First Products aeravator) and then slit seed the lawn with the other half of the seed (TTF) in one direction. Will this leave a row effect by doing it this way? Or would it be best to just aervate and then slit seed in two directions? Then add a starter fertilizer and water. This is a 24,000 sq.ft. lawn. I will seed at a 8 lb. per 1,000 sq.ft. rate. Any suggestions would be apperciated.

I will do the spraying, mowing, and vacuuming in August and seeding in September. I forgot to put that in the first thread.

What Dusty said. Used that exact method in the past with terrific results.

I would open up the ground first then seed. More chance of getting seeds in the holes. Otherwise it is a good plan..I do much the same only I core aerate to move some soil around and pull plugs to make more dirt on the surface before I slice seed into the lawn.

Stumpman,

Are you renting the First Products aeravator? If so where are you getting it from and how much is the rental on that unit?

Thanks

I bought the unit about four or five years ago from Shephens in Fuquay Varina. Their phone number is 919-552-2200.

Are you saying that you core aerate, then seed 1/2 rate by broadcasting and then slit seed the other 1/2 of the seed in one direction? If so, does this leave the row effect or the seed that you broadcast fill in the other areas?

too help alleviate the row effect, make the second pass at a 45 degree angle to the first pass....
