More Rubber Mulch

I have searched looking for recent thread on the use of rubber mulch products in beds. There isn't anything very new so I want to ask again.

Does anyone have any experience with the new generation of rubber mulch products?? Specifically, I looking at a product by a company in the St. Louis area named International Mulch Co. The have a product named Rubberific Mulch. Their WEB site is http://www.rubberificmulch.com . This stuff sounds pretty good, but I can find no real "scientific" studies of its effects on bedding plants, shrubs, etc. They say this stuff is treated by a patended process, that colors it for 10-15 years.

BTW, the only type of rubber "mulch" I've used is in playground and park areas that needed to be "safer" for the kiddies.

We had good luck with it for that application. Easy stuff to work with.

There is a guy here in our town selling the rubber mulch, but I am not sure what brand it is. I looked at it in a planter bed he had for display at his business and was not impressed. It looks just like what it is, colored, chopped up tires. You could even see some lettering on the larger chunks. His stuff was really pretty gross looking. I bet it would last for ever though. If it ever cought on fire, it would be heck to put out. LOL
