I recently took a different route to my local supply yard, and came across this job. I almost crashed my truck in disbelief that anybody could build something this bad and unsafe. Why WHy WHY!! would anybody having to start from scratch go through all this work, just to screw it up and build a nightmare?? I just don't get it. This job isn't new either. It's obvious the township building inspector or officials don't care either.

This residence is located in Franklin Township, NJ (Central NJ) :cry:

I don't think that town has a building inspector. Check out the deck in the last pic.

its a shame it looks like a Mercedes and a chrystler 300 in the drive way so they at least appear to have money....I'll bet it was a homeowner installed job...I don't think a pro could screw a job up that bad...

Well don't judge it just yet still needs the copping and then it will look as professional and straight as any other job.

I love how the seams all line up in the wall, makes it look more stable.

I'm sure that base consists of a good solid 3" of compacted grass.

Wait, that isn't the right material for a base?

Around here we consider South Jersey anything south of 78. The wall is sweet, but I like the stairs the best.

Hey guys!

Glad to share that set of photos with everyone. Major traffic on that road. It's in Creepyville, NJ (not a high end area). But wait! it gets better! Now that Im on the lookout for walls, I found ANOTHER Alan Block job, 2 miles away that's just as bad!!!! I didn't have my camera today. (rain here) But I will post some pics hopefully tomorrow. This next job, they stacked the blocks up on a 90 degree corner with no interlock or stager. Un-Real!! It's like two, six foot terraced walls all built wrong.

Get in the practice of caring an in expensive camera in your console. I have been doing it for the last year and it comes in handy.

As Promised,

Here are two more shots of an Alan Block wall gone wrong.

Instead of staggering the corners, this moron use all right-handed corners on one side and all left-handed corners on the the other instead of alternating them to build interlocked corners on both sides. DUH! :hammerhead:

I maintain a collection of these kinds of pictures. And I show them to clients whenever we give a bid for segmental retaining walls. I show them a printout of such pictures as an example of what could happen if you hire the wrong guy. Then, I always hand them a sample of our work as well. Here are some of the pics from my collection;

Wow, now I'm not a professional (I'm a contractor) but that's some seriously leveling issues. Even my dogs could throw a line better than that!

Thats not a bad idea to carry things like that.
