I recently had the same question. I searched lawnsite for hours to look at everyones feedback. I got the feeling that most everyone hated The Solo brand and were recomending The "SP" Brand. I went on ebay and ended up buying a brand new Sp-E for 70 dollars total. The local store had a solo for 99 dollars so i feel i did rather well. As for the performance, I love the Sp sprayer. It seems like it sprays forever on just a couple pumps. I do not have any first hand experience with Solo's but thats why i came here and researched like you are now. YOu too can do a search and i know you will come to the same conclusion.:usflag:

Hi Mr.Hurry, We will never again use any backpack sprayer that needs to be pumped up. The Shurflo SRS 600 rechargeable backpack sprayer is the only way to go. It has four spray settings and can spray as much as 120 gallons on a single charge. Ebay has 'em for $170 including shipping. We've used them for over a year now. So far the only problem with them (we have nine) is the gun that comes with these units eventually shells out -- then we put on a TeeJet gun which lasts a very long time. We use flat fan nozzles which allows us tp spray as much as 1000 per minute of turf or whatever.

Birchmeier, but you do have to pump it. About $300 new but worth it.

I'm on board with SOLO too.
I prefer the SP systems stuff. I have 1 that is 10 years old. I am liking the shurflow electric units the more I look at them. They are jsut a bit pricey,,,,

I've been using solo sprayers but I just bought a Stihl SG20 and I don't think I'll be using the solo anymore. It is a very nice piece of equipment. Handle folds straight up, holds 4.75 gallons, does not loose pressure, very comfortable straps.

I've had Solo sprayers before, and they worked well. Right now, all my backpacks (3), are SP or RL Pro. These are all made by Swissmex, and anything Swissmex has always been a good sprayer for me. I do prefer the piston type, as they produce much more pressure for shooting heights and distances for insecticides. I also use a piston type for my Roundup, but I have one diaphragm that I use for spraying Drive.

I don't know about anyone else but I treat the backpack sprayers as throw-away units. Don't get me wrong I don't try to deliberately break it but I've found no matter where I tie it down or store it or whatever something always seems to break. I mean we are dealing with spraying corrosives.
I usually buy a solo for 75-80 bucks from home cheapo or wherever and try and make it last for the year. It usually does. Once it goes I just set it to the side and use it for spare parts or chuck it.
Anyone else do this?
