Hey,

Does anyone have comments on the 2004 F250 Diesel's? Looking at picking one up for $27,000 w/80,000 KM. Seems like a pretty good deal but I remember reading about some problems with the early 6.0 L diesels.

Thanks for the input.

Jeff

U should be ok with the 04 the early 6.0 engine with the most problems was made early on in 03.I have both an older 03 and 04 6.0 and only had minor issues wit them.

I've got a 04 6.0 powerstroke 4x4. 71,000 miles and no problems. I'm about to change original tires out. Of all the trucks I've owned, the 04 6.0 is the best.

Sweet. This trucks is pretty done up, which tell me the last guy babied it which I like. It has custom paint with faint blue flames (not a fan of for work really but a deals a deal) and i think it will make me stand out a bit. Going to look at it tomorow afternoon.

Cheers and thanks for the input.

One other question, does the oil pan on these rust out like the 7.3's? Is this something I should be checking for?

Thanks

Check for signs the engine or electronics might have modified, if he has exhaust gas temp, boost, and fuel pressure gauges, run away.

What if it is just chipped? I know many guys chip their deisels however I guess if they have guages and what not it has been abused?

Hey,

Ive been reading alot about the 6L diesels and many people seem to report issues. Is there anything I should be wary of before I purchase this truck? I thought 04 was the third year of this diesel and that most issues would be ironed out by then.

If it's been chipped haul ass the opposite direction. Who knows what that guy did to it.

I agree with the others if its been chipped or some kind of tuner on it run and run fast because it could be riddled with problems. The 6.0s are good but if you start over boosting and over fueling the engine can't take it.

You end up with head gasket problems etc and Ford doesn't warranty damage done to a engine with a tuner.

As the others said get a oasis report on the truck see it has the updates and what has been replaced.

no the 6.0 came out in the 03 1/2 trucks. and the 04's are ok, but actually alot of 03's are better. 05 and later trucks are alot better. but if its at a ford dealer you should be ok. id never buy one off a dodge or chevy lot. Those are obviously the probematic ones!

Hi,

Well heres the scoop. This was a truck that was purchased at the dealer and maintained at the dealer. It seems like a pretty solid truck just used as a bosses truck. It has 80,000 KM on it and the factory warrenty is good to 160,000 KM or begining of 2009. I got $800 nocked off the price but they woulden't budge much. Its carfax is clean and he is going to check up on the oasis and make sure everything that can be done has been done. I think ive found a good deal,. here is a picture with my logo photoshopped on.

The truck looks clean enough. It doesn't have any badging on it like F-250 etc.

If you get this truck the first thing you need to do is go and get some seat saver covers or something to protect the seats. Ford seat fabric stains really easy , my seats looked like crap in my 04 when I traded it water stains will not come out

Just so you are aware, my cloth interior is an absolute nightmare. The cloth absorbs every little piece of dirt there is. And I have never had any problems with my F250, but it is going to Ford on Thursday for injector problems. And Fords eat balljoints also but other than that, no problems. :)

The best way to do it is get an AEM intake and cut the hole in the hood rite above it. will get you good performance.

I bought a truck a few years ago. I was completely neutral considering Ford, Dodge, Chevy/GMC. I wanted a late model 4x4 diesel. I researched for damn close to a year before buying. After reading nightmare stories of the Ford 6.0and watching my friends dad sell back his 03 6.0 only to have it replaced with an 04 that he hated just as much I decided to stay away. I have another friend with an 04 6.0 that had the motor replaced at 50,000 miles. I looked at Dodge because I love their diesel but the transmissions are crap in those trucks. Dodges generally dont seem as well made as a Ford/Chevy either. The Duramaxes have injector issues but they are warrantied to 200,000 miles in the problem trucks. After all of my studying I decided to go with a 02/03 Ford with the 7.3 or a 02/03 GM. I found a great deal on an 02 GMC 4x4 with the Duramax and I've never regretted my decision. This is coming from someone who has always driven Fords. In almost 3yrs I've never had a problem with my GMC (a truck I bought with about 84,000 miles on it).

Well got the truck and its awsome. Love the power. One question I have is the idiot at the dealer forgot to put the oil filler cap back on. I didn't notice until I got home. Should I cover this with something until I can get a replacement or will there be no harm done? I can't see oil coming back out but possibly crap falling in?

Thanks
Jeff

I think if it wa mine I would not run it till I got a cap for it lot of money invested to get screwed up by not having a oil cap on it !! dust in and oil out .If I had another vehile I would get in it and go back to dealer and leave the truck sitting . good luck and Happy motoring !!!!
