That whole setup wouldn't get 2 miles down the road in Michigan. They'd have a field day writing the tickets

Think this guy would care how many ticket they would write?
Am I missing something, or is there a licence plate on the trailer?

I think apperance is everything.....Before when it was just me and the 36in WB I would have a few people stop and ask for cards, but let me load with the 36in and the 52in WB, and the Turf Tiger and all the stihl and its like we are $h!t and they are flys. What I really love is when I have both trucks in the neighborhood with 3 mowers going.....attracts a lot of attention. I also have everyone dressed alike, and all Scags and Stihl equipment which helps also.

I saw a similar setup last weekend...junk Ford Ranger loaded done in the bed, a dual axle trailer loaded to the top...and the trailer mounted to the bumper. Well I suppose he had gotten pulled over the night before for insecure load...the bumper had actually broken at the mounts and had hinged down and was almost scraping the ground. The common sense of people.:hammerhead: :hammerhead:

And thats just another reason the D.O.T. Police are on a rampage this year cause of all the accidents from this kind of negligence, what is it with the Ford Ranger, i saw the guy pulling a 18ft open trailer with 2 z's and 2 W.b a few weeks back trailer had 3 blowers and 4 weed trimmers to. The front of the ford Ranger looked like it was gonna come off the ground.:hammerhead:

Same with this one...it was almost doing a wheelie! As if it wasnt enough...we saw they finally got the trailer moved when on way back from where we were going...another small framed junk truck, same trailer and it too was mounted to the bumper...some people never learn.

Wow, everyone is quick to make fun of ..........Just think he could be drawing welfare........I work hard so some on welfare don't have too! Sorry but I have been pretty poor ........Maybe that's why I appreciate someone that works hard more than someone that has everything!
At least this guy is trying..........Maybe next year he can move up! You know who ever took this pic. maybe you could have given the guy a few of your smaller accounts to get rolling...........I know I sure did appreciated people helping me out when I first started..........

He should at least have the bumper fixed or maybe have a hitch installed,i feel what your saying Mr. KYFIREMEN ,yea the guy is out trying to make a living maybe and thats all he's got.But what happens when the bumper lets go cause its falling off and the trailer and mowers cause an accident killing someone or children due to lack of just not caring. Who knows maybe he does care ? Its not the appearence that bothers me its the safety issuses. Looks totaly unsafe to me trailer and Bumper

Yes safely is very important.......I have never worked an accident that involved a lawn mower trailer. But I have worked accidents from the result of unsecured loads.....That really bothers me.......guys that run trailers and the mowers are not tried or chained down........It really makes for awful wreck when a load is hit that's not tied down. It really doesn't take much for a walk behind to start flying through the air. hopefully this guys bumper is good to go.......and is just bent down!

Hi, everyone! I'm new to the forums here. Look forward to talking with you.
As far as appearance, I would say it definitely is important. While you sometimes have to make due with what is available to you, people are actively judging you based on your appearance ALL THE TIME. Everyone does, yourself and myself included. We are hardwired to do so. Keeping that in mind can go a long way in helping you attract customers. Also consider the different ways in which that can work. I've gotten customers while I was in nothing but ratty shorts and sneakers covered in....... everything weedeating covers you in after they saw me hustle and do a good job. People will respect that and want to support your business. I guess this all goes to say appearance is more than just what you have on and how shiny your truck is. (But for the love of God, put on a clean shirt!)
he was asking how to get to the junk yard:dizzy:

I hear you guys...I feel sorry for this guy too. But the notion that you would recommend this guy to one of your customers is ridiculous. How do you think your customer would feel about it? They trusted their lawn to you and your professional equipment....and you give them Joe Dirt? C'mon....There are a lot of other jobs this guy could be doing besides cutting grass and endangering others.

After reading this post by kyfireman2004,
"That really bothers me.......guys that run trailers and the mowers are not tried or chained down........"
I started thinking and lets not bash anyone who answers this question honestly. But how many of you dont secure (Strap, Chain etc) your equipment while its on the trailer and your on the road?

That's really the problem in a nutshell, the same thing would happen to you here in virginia...
I'm all about buying used, I do NOT for one second believe that a brand-spanking new outfit will get you a lot of business either, but it ought to look like it's all in working order and not about to fall apart. That trailer is plain dangerous, the truck pulling it has no business doing it, that vehicle is not secure for that load, then the load isn't secure either.
Then again you should've seen my 1st year truck, I had a 1974 F-250, at the time it was 28 years old and we guessed 400,000 miles on the odo... Believe it or not it looked better than the one in the pic, but not by much ... I did have a class-III hitch thou... So between wore out crap at least get a 3/4 ton, my mowers didn't look so hot either, but they were commercial Wb's.
Lemme see if I got a pic...

Some states don't require it, less so for homemade trailers but some not at all until they get a certain size...

Looks dangerous, so I hope he intends to improve with safety in the forefront. I know of a guy who has a similar setup, and does firewood cutting as well as mowing. He works at it so that his mother will have a home health nurse instead of living in a nursing home. Now, having said that we have no idea what the situation is for the individual(s) in the photo. He may be a total slug, or a guy down on his luck.

I'm not gonna pick on this guy too much, there is someone i know who's dad's rig looks about like that, but it's two little home made trailers behind his 80 something nissan pickup, with craftsman mowers on them. He works hard, but to address it plain and simple, HE IS A LOWBALLER. He has to be, because there is no way he can, or should, be able to get away charging the same rate for the job I do, that turns out better because i have an actual investment in commercial equipment, that will run day in and day out, and provide a superior quality of work to what his does, and do so more efficiently. I think appearance means a lot, i wouldn't even call somebody in a rig like that to do any kind of job for me, let alone let them work on my property. I realize he is trying to make a living like the rest of us, but first impressions are huge, and I doubt a rig like that buys you much in that department. Even when I was 15 and first starting out, with no help from mommy and daddy, all my own money from farming, I still had a nice looking 3/4 ton truck and trailer, and clean, used commercial mowers.

I was just going to say, I hope he's not using the bumper to hitch to.
I guess you start with what you have. Of course, I've seen a few that still look like that after 5 or 6 years in the biz. They must be making it work, to a degree, enough to satisfy someone.

I saw one setup this spring that kinda surprised me. It was an older Bronco (mid 80's or earlier) with a homemade trailer pulling a cheapo cub cadet rider and an old john deere rear engine rider. I thought those guys won't be around much. Much to my surprise, I've seen them a lot actually.
I have also seen someone with a mid 90's explorer pulling a 16 or 18' enclosed trailer. Hes got 2 Riders, and at least 1 walk behind. I can beleive an explorer will pull that much weight.
Seen one the other day going down the main drag safety chain's dragging on the street trailer going up and down. Flashed my lights at him told him about it he told me chains don't reach and the ball was the wrong size he is just taking his time it will be ok:hammerhead: :dizzy: :nono:
