I've got a friend who is re-seeding their lawn(about 9,000 sq ft) and is insisting on weed-free straw, instead of peat moss, as a top dressing. I've read a lot about it, but can't find it anywhere. Any suggestions? Directories of purveyors on the web? I'm in SE Pennsylvania.

Thanks!

I don't think I have ever heard of a weed free straw. Salt marsh hay is supposed to be relatively free of weed seeds. To cut down on weeds use a starter fertilizer with Siduron pre-emergent weed control. It does not prevent desirable grass seed from germinating.

Straw is a complete waist of time when doing renovations or overseeding in the fall.

Just rent a good power seeder and water as needed.

Straw will only cause weeds, extra work, extra cleanup, and a mess.
