View Full Version : Trailer hitch ball size logic?
Ok...
Is there any logic behind ball sizes, that is, does each size designate a weight limit or something?

my 1 7/8 ball can pull 5,000 lbs, so can my 2". my friends 2 5/16 is rated for 12,000 lbs. but there are also 2" balls that are rated for 10,000 lbs. it just depends on what class you get.

yes but as mentioned above, there are differences even amongst same sized units so read the label.

The weight rating is stamped or cast into the top of the ball, use the correct size ball that exceeds the maximum gross weight of your trailer.
The 2-5/16" ball for my B&W GN hitch is rated for 32,000Lbs.
