Got my new aeravator AE-40 today! How's this, mow, seed, aeravate, & fertilize without getting off the mower except to refill the spreader?

Whoo hooo!!!:D

Congratulations and good luck with the setup. Just needs to be color coordinated, too many clashes

That's a nice looking setup. Does it actually cut grass though? The lawn it's sitting on obviously needs cutting.

Kirby,

Is that a Lesco spreader? Can you tell/show me how you went about mounting it... Please.

Thanks

Great setup:) I don't think I would mow at the same time as the others listed, but the rest go hand in hand.

Richard, that's my lawn and nope it's not mowed yet, oh well. Spent the day working and heading to Chicago tomorrow so I'll get to it Monday.

TSG, I used a trailer hitch setup from Northern Tools. The one attached to my mower here is part number 330686, the ball mount on the spreader is part number 331850. Hope that helps.

Hicks, go to www.1stproducts.com and then you can find a local dealer.

As for the others, no I don't plan on mowing at the same time that I'm fertilizing, not that dumb yet.http://www.unionturf.com/nerd.gif

Good looking setup there Ray. The only thing that would make it better would be a DC pulling it.

What's one of those aerovators cost?

$4200 with tax.

Thanks Kirby.

I've had the spreader for a week now hanging on the wall of my trailer (like yours in the pic) wondering how to attach it to my Lazer. I was thinking of getting the JRCO mounting kit and welding a plate the same size as what's on the Lesco spreader. Then using 2 bolts to secure it. I like the hitch idea... easier on and off.

Thanks again!

P.S. Forgot to mention... That's one fugly weld job :D but effective.

Nice Setup!!!
I am interested in this machine, with as dry as it has been this year in missouri. This would make the jobs easier and I would be able to do them, instead of waiting for some rain, which never happens. The ground is like concrete.
I have a question for you. When you finish an area and need to go over the driveway, what raises it so the tines don`t tear up the driveway?
Thanks:D

mow money,
I was looking into purchasing an AE 40. They use a 12 volt electric lift to raise the unit. You use the battery of the tow unit to power it. :) ;) :) ED

Great set up Kirby! Looks like your ready to give Stone a run for his money. Haven't heard much about his aerating set up for a while. How does't the tow behind do in corners and tight places? Didn't you just buy a new split shaft walk behind aerater last year?

Now you have a Grane mower!

Nice set up.

Looks a bit like that contraption of Stone's but more costly. I hope you make a bundle with it. Russ

Thanks Kirby... I needs me one of them AE-40. It should do well in all this clay soil. Now I know where to spend my retirement bonus. Thanks... David.

Over $4k+ is a lot of money for an attachment.

If you had a tine rake you would have a nice set up for sports fields. That's where the real $$ and volume is at.

You are too far up the food chain for the homeowner market.

You need to use direct mail to create interest. The list of public schools etc. is in the phone book. Offer a free consultation and soil tests.

Sports on turf and new facilities are being built yearly. Catch the wave before it peaks.

i think its really retorical eric..., Btw, on the aerator, does speed affect it's performance if you go to fast it won't do it's job, if you go to slow it will be a tiller?

I know on the 1stproduct site they have a pic of one aerating but I want to see a pic of the AE-40's work with tine on and off. Could you please take some pics of it working. Thanx

Good advice and I agree.

I am ordering the rake/broom attachment for the machine, hope to do some fields here. I must stress, the ground here is rock hard clay and it sucks!

I just returned from Eric land in Chicago and he said the ground there was hard, maybe to them but I found that soil a dream and now understand how he has the lawns he does! The soil there was dark, soft, and even the trailer park off I-90 had striped lawns!

Here, we have light brown clay soil, the aerator will simply bounce off the ground unless we have had alot of recent rain. Heck, it's hard to hammer a screwdriver into the gound lately, no kidding! The aeravator solves this problem, yes at a high price.

LGF, I will try to get a video of this model working, click here for 2 videos on my website of the AE60 running last year: http://www.unionturf.com/aeravation.htm. It looks like it's just rolling, but the tines are shaking and breaking up the soil very nicely. Here is a photo of that soil after aeravation:

Kirby you are never going to grow any Chicago like turf in clay.

What you have to do is sell these people yearly (read my lips perpetual) a soil amendment application program (apply home grown compost) in combination with aeration, tine rake and dino fertilizer.

Then if they have irrigation kill that ugly fescue and plant blue/rye in a 50-50 ratio. Keep whacking it with iron and "K" all summer to keep it green.

Now you will have Chicago or Upstate PA/NY like turf in a climate that resembles purgatory.

Stone, your idea sounds fine but would not work here. The rye grass burns up and is gone quickly during spring and summer. We had almost 2 months with little or no rain and temps in the mid to upper 90's, Rye can't survive here, we mainly use it to overseed warm season grasses during fall/winter for color.

I do promote composting and organic fertilizer to help.

Ray, Is it the soil that won't allow you to grow blue grass and fescues like around here? We also went 2 months with next to no rain and had temperatures in the mid to upper 90's. This was a dry hot summer here, but as soon as it rained, the grass greened up and is growing like spring time. I guess you got to see it first hand this weekend. :)
