I've got an echo backpac blower, stihl trimmer, off brand stick edger, and a 21" lawn boy. They all seem to take a different ratio of gas/ oil mix. Should I keep a seperate container for each piece of equipment or is there a happy medium?:alien:

Keith Amsoil 100:1 Premix. Mix it at about 80:1
I had the same problem. I read the posts about the others using amsoil, and got me some. I have been using it for two months, and the equiptment seems to have more powerand no smoking at all. It is really nice to only have one can of mix gas now!!!!

Thought about a poll of Amsoil users, to see how many prefer the 100:1 to the 50:1 racing. (didn't know how to do a poll) Fixing to order some, and have to decide which kind would be the best.

I use one fuel can for all, trimmers, blowers and chain saws. I use 21/2 gal. cans and use Havoline 2 cycle oil. Never measure just pour till it looks about right. Been running same equipment for over 7 yrs. with no problems:D
stihl or echo 50-1 and high octane gas. mix exact or just a tiny tad oil rich . clean exhaust, easy cranking. the only reason to mix a tad oil rich is the newr equipment is set really lean to meet epa standards.sometimes they can vapor lock . not a problem but it sometimes cost time while they cool off.luck now

In the old days I used LawnBoy @ 32:1 in everything and for years now have used Stihl @ 50:1. Always mixed the ratio exactly as on the can and no problems.

I keep a separate gas can, clearly labled on both sides what the mixture is. I tried this 'one can fits all' mixtures a few years ago with an oil company which claimed to work for all equipment. When my new trimmer locked up, and the manufacturer told me that they could easily tell that I was running with the wrong oil gas mixtures, I contacted the oil company. They quickly had their attorney send me a letter stating their warranty, which was none. A costly mistake. If you want to chance your non-warranty power equipment on non-factory gas/oil blends, go ahead. But if you have a problem with your power equipment which is under warranty, watch out. I learned the hard way. For me, I only follow the manufacturers recommendation. I've seen too many snake oil salesmen with claims that your power equipment will now fly if you use their oil.

Almost every equipment mfgr. also has their own "Private Label" 2-cycle oil, which is designed to run at a specific mixture, be it 50:1, 32:1, etc.
What you need to remember, is that the ratio is determined by the oil...not the equipment ! Equipment does not have a brain, where it can say "I'll work at this ratio, but not that one".
THE BURDEN OF PROOF IS ON THE OIL !!
There are several excellent oils out there that one can use. Amsoil seems to be the "synthetic" of choice with many of the members, as is evidenced by the testimonials being given here. Opti-2 is an excellent "petroleum-based" product. Both of these products obviously have proven themselves to be able to be used in any 2-cycle application, regardless of make or model, or they would'nt still be around for as many years as they have been on the market.
The key, as I see it, is if you mix your oil of choice according to the manufacturers recommended ratio, you will have no problems.
Opti-2 ENVIRO Formula E-GD+
I use it in equipment rated at 32:1 and 50:1 without any problems...so far at least.
All machines are at least 2 years old and start on first or second pull...no smoke...and plugs still looked great at the start of the season.
I highly recommend this oil.

same as awm, 50:1 echo oil. use it in all my trimmers, blowers and two cycle equipment, as well as the chain saw. never had a problem.

My experience. Used Husquvrna XP oil in all my equipment and plugged up my 1999 Toro Pro-Line Mower. Trimmer and hedge trimmer run fine. After rebuilding my Toro I swiched to Amsoil. I've been buying them in the pouch. 1.5oz. to 1 gallon of fuel. Everything is running stronger than with the Husky oil and NO SMOKE!!!!! I bought a used Sthil chainsaw and it was running like CRAP would not idle. Dumped out what was in there and filled up with the Amsoil mix and to my surprise within minutes of running it seemed to have more power and would idle as long as I left it setting there running. That there told me that it's got allot to do with the oil you use. Since switching to the Amsoil mix I will never use regular 2 cycle oil again.

We have used opti-2 for at least 10 years maybe more.never had a problem.I still have the same equipment that i began using it in and it still runs like new.I run it in all my 2 cycle engines. It also has a fuel stabilizer in it too.Try it and i think you will use it forever.I buy it by the case of 48 packs.Use one pack per gallon.

We use it in all our 2 cycle engines. Have a Stihl BR400, 6 yrs old and haven't even changed the plug !! Although last Fall, I had to replace the screw on top of the spark plug. No cylinder failures, no scoring, no burnt rings, no problems. Usually go through 35 gallons during the mowing season, and about 75 gallons just for Fall clean ups.

I use quaker state , 8 oz. to 2.5 gallons, around 40:1. It has worked well for me, running euipment rated 32:1, and others wanting 40:1 or 50:1. I have heard the amsoil is great, but it just aint handy to buy. our mowing crews use echo oil out of a 5 gallon jug and a pump at about 50:1

ive always been willing to try new ideas an products.
most of them dont make the team, but you get a surprize now an then

Thanks for the replies, this will help
I've always used Echo brand oil in all my Echo equipment. No problems so far but the more I hear about Amsoil, I might have to try it.

I believe they have their own website. You would be able to find it if you do a search (like on msn., or something). I'm like David. Only I just buy the 2 cycle quarts and mix 8 oz. to 2 gallons of gas. If I go a little leaner than that, I don't sweat it. I've had great luck with my equipment lasting for years, and have used this mixture for about 20 years now.

I run all Stihl equipment so everything has the same mixture. I always run the Stihl oil.
As far as Opti, this stuff is worth it. I run the motor oil in both my eXmarks. Last spring when the fuel went thru the carb and into the crankcase on the metro, this oil saved me. The dealer checked the motor out and showed me something very interesting. The gas would normally have cleaned all the oil out and when started there would be no protection. After all that fuel in there, you could still feel the protective layer the opti had in the motor. I will only use this now.

Why in the world would you do anything differently if you have had no problems? If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I've been using Opti2 since March, really like it. I've had problems in the past using the Stihl 2 cycle oil in my Stihl equipment, stopping up the spark arrestors, gumming up, stopping up filters. I've had no problems with the Opti2, no smoke unlike the Stihl oil. My Stihl dealer recommends the Opti2 over the Stihl oil especially if you have different makes of 2 cycle equipment.
