 What's the most embarassing thing that has happened while working?
Today at 6 pm last job of the day about my truck broke down in a customers drive way. Very big drive way so trucks not in the way no parts no drive truck home. Had to ask cust if I could leave it trailer, mowers and all!! Very embarassing. First time cust. Very nice and understanding too.

When yu drive a truck all day all year it will happen sooner or later. Luckily for you it was in a place where you could leave the trailer. Could have been worse. Is it a new or older model truck? Maintanence is key for all equipment in this business.

Mine would be when I backed my Walker into a fountain pond. I don't think anyone saw so I was ok. It doesn't add up to the guy on here a couple of months back that couldn't get his walk behind up the stairs of a back yard and had to leave it there. lol

i was cutting a lawn one time that had overgrown because of a lot of rain. i was on my lesco hydro with sulky and i was cruzing really good, and almost done when i found a new stump. my mower stopped dead in its tracks. the next thing i knew, i was flying over the handle bars and the brake lever just happened to find the inside of my pants pocket. well snap, the buckel broke, rip, the zipper tore apart, and whoosh, my pants slid down to my ankles. and with my hands on the deck, i quickly shimmied my way back up to where a can stand up and pull up my pants.
i guess i really should of wore undershorts that day.
it was a small subdivision with the houses far apart, and i did not hear any one laughing, nor did i see me on america's funniest vidios, so i can only assume that i was lucky enough to see the sight.

laserman and gene,

What do you do in this situation? I've often wondered what I would have to do when this occurs (because it eventually will!) and I don't have a system to deal with it. Obviously, you can't get the truck out of there with that kind of damage. Do you repair the truck at the customer's site, either yourself or bring in a mechanic? Do you have the truck towed to your house or to a garage? Can a tow truck take your truck and trailer in one haul?

What did you do???

I have a cable on my trailer ( it came with the garage door spring I used for my lift gate kit). The cable is bolted down an one end and the other end I thread through my gas can, cooler, and lock on the pin on th trimmer rack. I stopped to gas up, undone the cable, let it lay off teh side of the trailer.
Another guy pulled up beside me , with a Dodge and we talked about the trucks. I forgot to put the cable back and lock the lock.

Coming down mainstreet, I looked back to see a cloud of white smoke on the passenger side rear...
I pulled over, it took about 15 minutes before I saw where the cable had rapped around the tire and cut a nice groove in it.
The lock was still sitting on the edge of the trailer.

I have Tripple A RV (AAA) they will tow the truck and up to a 40' fifth wheel trailer or 35' tag up to 100 miles for free

I mowed a couple of acres (my own) once with the deck at the transport setting, seemed to be cutting real smooth - but, I had let the grass get so high it was cutting grass - maybe it wasn't the wrong thing to do.

Didn't you notice the mower sounded very quiet?

I was standing by the open truck door filling my bucket when a lady customer walked up and handed me my check instead of mailing it. As mdb said "what can you do?"

Posted this under another name because of a forgotten password but I got my WB stuck in a backyard because I went down steps I couldn't get back up. I had to leave it in the yard overnight & the son of the property owner was messing with my WB that night & crashed it through the fence. The most embarassing part of the entire incident was when the customer caught me trying to heave the WB up her steps.
In a footnote to that incident I put a gate in where the WB went through the fence & we now cut the adjoining prop as well. Gave the adjoining prop owner a real low price because we had to run the WB across his prop. to get to the gate. SORRY BUT I REALLY HAD TO LOWBALL.

reminds me of a guy who under no circumstances would pee where anyone could see his assets.i happened to walk up on him one day ,seemed pretty normal to me.i guess he had been believing what all his buddies said. it was funny to watch
the efforts he would go to to make sure he was hid.
i wrestled him once on lunch break,he was much a man, tough as, well

ok, I'll give you one of my whoopses,
I am going thru a parking lot with my truck & trailer and right after a tall speed bump the truck stalls out. I think nothing so I crank the engine, nothing so I pump the gas and cranked away, still nothing, I swear and pump the gas five or six times and hold the petal to the floor BOOOM!!!!!! then the truck started right up loud as hell blew the muffler open and blew the pipe out of the headers! how embarrasing

I locked my keys in the truck with the engine runing. A neighbor across the street from my customer called AAA and they came out and unlocked the truck. I cut her lawn the following week. No charge.

while mowing a small town paper's yard, i put my cub into a ditch about 2and a half feet deep i was mowing the sides of the ditch i turned up one side to get out i started spinning, my tires caught and the mower stood straight up. by now people are stopping on the road and coming out of the paper's office to watch the dumb as that is about to flip his mower over. it took me and two other guys to get it out of that ditch. needless to say we weed eat that ditch now

While mowing for an elderly lady and her daughter's lawn (Baldwin Sisters) stopped unbeknownst to me in a fire ant pile. Hard to look dignafied whith your pants around your feet squirting yourself with the garden hose. Thought I was going to have to give the mother CPR as she was laughing so loud. To add insult to injury Ms Kitty across the street let me know the following week that she did not know that a short middle aged guy could move that fast.

I was out cutting one day and my shorts fell off and hung around my ankles. I was trimming and was walking along and all of a sudden they just fell off. I'm glad the customer wasn't home and I was also behind their hedges. If it were at my next job site it would not have been a good thing as it's a commercial job on a very busy highway. As I've lost 40 # they were old shorts and I was not ready to retire them yet. So to get by for the rest of the day I made a belt out of trimmer line. Got home and those shorts are now good rags.
