I demoed an 850 HD the other day and was very impressed with it's overall performance. I'm ready to order but have a question about the engine choice available. Do I get the 6.5 HP Honda for $4395 plus tax or save approx. $200 and go with the 6.5 Briggs and Stratton Intek. I'm not trying to start a "what's your favorite engine" war, just would like some actual owners advice. Thanks.

I had the plugr with the honda and really liked it. The thing is, you are asking an engine question, so probably if you just generically ask the difference between using the 2 engines, and dont include the plugr in your "tag", then many more knowledgeable folks can chime in with their experience, as few people have even used the plugr. That being said, the honda always starts on one pull, even when it has been sitting for months, and I think you will kill the plugr before you kill the Honda. Just my 2 cents.

I just got 2 quotes for this machine last week

$3800 w/honda
$3820 w/honda

Both will be coming from Hayward distributing

Maybe you can get your dealer down a little?

Thanks for the comments, so far. Looks like I need to negotiate on the price.

grass disaster, as you can see in an earlier post, I was quoted $4395 from my local dealer for the honda powered 850hd, but Tobe Lawn Care got a quote of $3820 from Hayward Distributing in Ohio. Hayward is a distributor for dealers out in that region but too far away from me. So, I called Tidewater Power Equip in Virginia Beach, Va., the closest distributor to me. They won't sell to me because I have a dealer within 16 miles of my house and they won't infringe. So right now, I'm stuck at $4395. If anyone else knows of a better way to do it, give me a shout, cause I'm ready to buy.

I saw dealer cost for the 850HD and it was about $3,400. Only problem around here is that this time of the year the sale them as soon as they getem so you arent going to get it at a cheaper price.

Well, I did bite the bullet and got mine. It should be paid for this season as I've been lining up aeration jobs since last month but haven't started any yet because of the dry weather. I'm actually going to do one tomorrow because the customer has been watering. Since picking mine up, I must say that it's impressive. I've tested it on my own yard and as dry as it is, it pulls great plugs. It's smooth and easy to operate. I ordered a set of 3/8 tines because it looks like I'll get a job doing the tees at a local golf course.
