crappy pictures but how old do you think this exmark is. the reason i ask is because the guy selling it claims it is a 2003 i would say early 90's

I don't sell Exmark but I know that Kawasaki flat head is an older (but good) engine. I would say 10 years old or so...

That is an old one. The double white stripes down the belt cover tell me that. Look on the engine tag. There should be a manufacture date for the engine. That's no guarantee of age but it'll give you a good idea.

The serial number on the chassis will tell you what year it is.
Get that and either talk to a servicing dealer or go on-line and find out for yourself.
The single lung Kawi's were replaced around '98 or so with more emission compliant, more fuel efficient motors.
As a nutshell quess since I haven't tested the compression on the motor, haven't seen the machine in person, I'd say around $750-$800 would be fair.

im not interested in purchasing the mower. i know that mower is late 80's early 90's i have a 32'' exmark just like it. i just think it's funny that this joker is trying to pass this off as a 2003 he says he has the paperwork on it. and thats not a variable speed trans it's a 5 speed that has a chain that turns a jackshaft. but theres no way it's a 2003 and he says it only has 200 hours and get this he wants $1750 for it.

1750?? you need to say to him do you mean 175.00?
That is a few years older then my first exmark metro i bought which was nearly 12 years ago. My metro did however have barely more then 400 hrs on it...

Does he have a bridge he's trying to sell you as well? The chain drive set-ups are older. I've seen them on the gravely mowers but that was a 94-95ish model (I think). The engine might be an 03 though??? I have an older (but no as old as the machine in the picture) metro 36" wb that I got with a seized engine. I put a brand new engine on it back in 04 or 05. Mower still runs for my gated properties.

Post the S/N and model # in the Exmark forum and Casey @ Exmark should be able to find out ho old it is. He did this for me, I know for a fact that that is later than "early 90's" cuz mine is a 92' and it looks nothing like yours. I'd guess 95' ish.

Look at that emblem, it looks nothing like todays eXmarks. My guess is that its been repainted and at least 15 years old.

$1750? That's a joke. I bought a 6 year old ExMark 36" hydro with sulkie for $1,250 last year and it had 300 hours on it.
That 'ol Kawi motor is reliable and robust but wwaayyyy older than an '03.

There's just no telling, the price might be right, if that guy doesn't know enough about his product...
Which, that in and of itself is a flag, any serious salesman ALWAYS knows their product, intimately preferred.
It's real iffy, I'd likely walk just because of that, but it could be alright, maybe.

I'd guess the pics are too crappy but age or not it sure looks nice...
If it's more than a year old then it's been garage kept, almost never used.
OR, repainted.

Now you can't match the paint job of those things, you really have to look sometime when you flake a piece of paint off a new one (yes don't do this on purpose) but look at how THICK and TOUGH that polymer is, the paint on Wb's is almost like a shell it's so good.

I dare say repainting a Wb is at least as hard as factory finishing a car, for this reason repainting is a bad idea, you're better off selling it looking like crap than repaint. In most cases you can almost always tell, most repaint jobs are done by an amateur, if a pro did it then it might take some doing, something that might be beyond most of our ability.

Who knows, even if it's 20 years old, if it was garage kept the entire time?

i asked for model# and serial #s and he declined wonder why.

Well that should be on the machine, all my toros have the tag, it is something you make SURE you NEVER ever remove or lose...!
I suppose one might fall off, but I'm telling you I make sure they're there and if a rivet comess off it's time to re-tack it.

So you shouldn't have to ask, but at the same rate he should give that to you freely, either way him declining in and of itself is iffy, he might not want to give this out over the phone (thou I couldn't guess as to why). All depends, schools sometimes sell one, they don't know this stuff, and they act dumb or say no if you ask, too...

But a mower without these tags is as good as stolen around here, no serious Lco would touch one.
Yup, no ssn tag, no deal.
But you can and might have to go look at it, not every seller knows this.

One of my neighbors had a 36" exmark that looked just like that one- I think he said his was a 1992 model, I looked into buying it before I decided to buy my Toro 36" WB new a few years ago.

$1000 would be quite generous. I'd give him no more than $500 for it.

now the guy says that the deck was replaced with a older deck because of rust from rain. and he also says that they did'nt use the 14 hp 420v kawasaki motor on exmark in the early 90's. i told him he's full of it. first off how does a deck rust out in 3-4 years and they did put 14 hp kaws on the early 90's models because i used to have one. this guy is a joker:laugh:
